Hi guys does anyone know how to get to the solonoid or know the location i have had alot of issues with my piagio mp3 starting

Parts Diagrams from Easy Parts and the official Parts Piaggio are a good place to start for finding where things are located.

What's frustrating is its not listed as "starter solenoid" its listed as an abbreviation so its not immediately findable in the catalog. The closest I can find is the starter motor assembly and presumably the solenoid should be near there.

Remember to always double check your VIN to make sure you know exactly which sub-variation of the MP3 you have. Most parts are standard across Mp3 models but some are unique to the specific trim or sub-model.

Midway along on the right hand side heavy duty relay with 2 wide terminals and 2 standard terminals also check for the brake lights to come on to prove both switches are OK. Right hand brake and indicator assembly has to come off and the panel they fit in.

hi guys thank you for the help i just cant find it i have tried

midway along under the seat? i have had a look and cant see it the rear brake lights are fine and both work this is all because i changed the spark plug now it wont fire up at all so i guess its the solinoid.

thanks guys i found the solenoid what a nightmare getting the panels off there are screws in places not fit for humans to reach

A torch is very handy to find screws in obscure locations. You've had some practice won't be such a problem next time.

guys after checking the reading its 23.9 i am sure this is supposed to me 78-80

That sounds too low a reading you should be able to feel it operate without any connection to the starter. the actual starter circuit is batt from fuse2 via ign key fuse8 stop switch starter button relay coil to an eth at the ecu.

i tested the unit and yes it clicks but the reading im only getting is 23.9-24.00

surely this is the reason its faulty the solenoid connecters looks bad check the picture out

You can lever the plastic cover off and see if the contacts are making or if they are corroded

cant see any issues will just await the new one

after fitting a new solenoid and spark plug cable it fired up but.....


the recommended spark plugs when fitted the bike fires up and stalls. so i used a spark plug with a thin top section and it worked just fine Piaggio really need to sort out their spark plug connectors its not a tight fit at all i had to cable tie the ngk spark plug tip to a cable to make sure it does not fall out.
