Well, for the first time in 20-odd years, I decided to ride a DirtBike, in the bush, at night, on a dodgy clay track... and obviously fell off, numerous times.
I was wearing proper riding gear, as guessed I would have a few "mishaps ", but on one of the soft falls my wrist got caught under handlebars/bark-buster & well, I've broken wrist, snapped a tendon in wrist, plus broken thumb, torn tendon & damaged nerve in thumb!

So, riding is out (I cannot even drive, & have 6 weeks with brace/casts & palm UP (I cannot believe how quickly they became hairy!) in the hope that I won't need surgery.

The Australian Classic Scooter Mille (1000km in 2-days, on '69 VBC) is coming up at end of October, and to get there is on other side of Australia (about 3600km e/w), so my partner is more than a bit concerned that my wrist will give up & I'll need surgery!

The only option (well, one option) is to minimise the amount I will need to rely on my right arm.. hence this post.

Does anyone know of a FLOOR MOUNTED ACCELERATOR or if a THUMB THROTTLE on the left would be a viable option?

I searched here, but only a few posts, all on aitos, so not much help.

Left Handed Throttle?
How to adapt it to handlebars?
Put this on LEFT to operate clutch and accelerator!

There must be a way to get a round hole onto an oddly shaped peg?

Could something like this, combined with a whole lot of ingenuity, work?

https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Accelerator-Throttle-Pedal-Assembly/dp/B01N7W8XJJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=foot+throttle&qid=1693899524&sr=8-3

Your an absolute BEAST for trying to make it to that run, btw.

Dude. That sounds really bad. Did you sever a tendon? You would know, because docs would be fishing the end out of your upper arm to re-attach it where it belongs. Please take care of yourself. Sorry to be a worry wart, but be careful out there.

A couple of thoughts.

One, the motorcycle "cruise control" thingies could help you use the actual throttle without having to twist quite so much. More of a press down. You would probably need a very quick action throttle so that it would be less than a quarter turn to wot.

If you fitted a foot controlled throttle you would need to be absolutely sure that it's not possible to stick on, under braking or some other situation. I feel like that eliminates either pressing down or lifting with your foot... possibly something that goes sideways might achieve that?

Also your front brake is an issue, not sure what could be done about that other than converting it to foot operation.

I'm in the don't ride it camp. My wife/ then girlfriend low sided in a turn on my ET3 and the only damage she got, were the thumb/wrist tendons from where she hit the bottom of the mirror. It didn't heal right with therapy and now she has limited grip strength in her left hand. She now doesn't have the strength to squeeze in the clutch on a smallframe.

Be the guy who hands out doughnuts in the beginning and drives the support truck and give this a chance to heal.

Yeah, there are a few ways you could... And I understand you wanting to do this and admire your pluck for being willing to try.... But no, just NO! Facepalm emoticon Your body needs a chance to heal properly on its OWN schedule and it's not like you are losing a chance for a 10,000 quid prize or something . Do you wanna risk a fuxxed up forever right hand/wrist for this? You can participate but like MJR said "Be the guy who hands out doughnuts in the beginning and drives the support truck and give this a chance to heal."

Before trying any type of modification it would be wise to check with your insurer as they could use 'unauthorised modification' in addition to 'unfit to drive/ride' as a get-out clause should there be an accident.

I didn't consider the potential insurance ramifications, but I would rather not ask them for clarification, as they may ask if there are any other "unauthorised modifications"... it's many years late for the "Before trying ANY type of modification " type of question with Speedy!
best they not be given that opportunity.

Funny thing... when I first insured it they asked dumb questions like:
Does it have an alarm?
No, it doesn't have a battery.
Does it have an immobiliser?
No, it doesn't have a battery, but it's also a beeach to start.
Is it stored in a locked garage?
No, house doesn't have a garage!
Is it stored on secured property?
Sometimes.
Is it modified?
Yes... (listed numerous mods.)
Does it have ABS...etc.
No, it was built in 1969 & the front brake is a cable drum brake about 4 1/2" x 3/4", and barely stops it! The headlight is generally has a yellow tinge to it & beam hardly gets to the rosd, But it does have a loud horn & exhaust pipe!
Does it have a steering lock?
Yes, but it doesn't work!
Does it have a flash key immobiliser thingss?
No, it doesn't have a key!
So, what happens if someone wants to steal it?
Ohh, they walk up to it, and try to start it, then it won't start... i spose that if they really want to, they could push it away...
Ohh, i see...
Will you insure it?
Yes, no worries.
Cool, then, I will take that insurance!
