Curt here from Louisville, KY. My wife and I have been collecting bikes for years, but we never added any scooters. Well, i had an ankle reconstruction surgery in May 2023, so was 6 weeks no weight bearing and 6 more in a boot. Well it was decided that the surgery needed a redo, so last Monday I had even more extensive surgery. Obvioulsy there has been no actiivity with any of the bikes in the garage .

So two days before the surgery, I happened into Cadre cycle in Cincinnati for a say hi visit. Enzo had a sweet little 2009 Vespa GTS 250 ie Super in the used bikes, with the boot still on I thought I could ride that!! So Enzo let me take it for a spin, and I was instantly in love, my long missed wind therapy was back and much needed. So Enzo gracioulsy deleiverd it to me, and I rode the wheels off for those two days.

Second surgery was last Monday, I will now be in a cast for 6 weeks, then back to the boot for another 6-8 wks doing PT. As soon as that happens I will be riding again now!! Yay me!! I will probably be in a boot until the first of the year.

Excited to be here and learn more about my Vespa!

Congrats and welcome. Nice collection.

Wish you the best with the ankle. I had ankle surgery with a plate and screws so know at least a little of what you are going through.

I would say you do. Yeah they didn't use any hardware the first time. Realize they had to go back and add it. So we've been two times around on this one. Thanks

I broke my foot last year.

I don't usually park on the sidewalk, but I was in an unfamiliar/sketchy neighborhood with a bunch of one way streets and in a bit of a hurry. I was duck walking it to be less intimidating to pedestrians. I underestimated how much inertia a 400-pound motorbike adds. I went to kick off of a concrete planter and crushed some tiny bones in my foot.

Paradoxically, I spent the rest of the summer sidewalk parking everywhere. Having the Vespa let me retain my mobility and independence while I could barely walk in that boot.

I hope you heal quickly!

We only have that one left, at one time we had a 125, 250 and a 400. At the peak we had 22 bikes, we have downsized to 10. Getting to old to leep up withg them all.

Here are some of the bikes we have had

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the pictures. Nice bikes you have there.

Sorry to hear about your ankle struggles. Three years ago, I was in a bad bicycle crash and broke my hip, my elbow and buggered up my knee. I had just bought ny GTS three weeks prior. No riding for me for a long time.

As time went on, I realized that lifting my leg to get over the seat of my Bonneville just wasn't working out the way I wanted. I eventually sold the Triumph and now only have my two Vespas.

Honestly, I couldn't be happier.

Heal quick. In the mean time, this forum has a lot of really knowledgable folks that can answer any of your questions about your new Vespa.

I'm really sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you're somewhat on the mends. I've had both knees replaced as well as this ankle surgery, and I'm getting old. I can certainly see how I could be happy with just vespa's in the garage. Not quite there yet but we're going to continue to ride and enjoy this little thing. So fun!

Kind of got a itch for a p200 two-stroke, just to see what that's like.

Classic Vespas are "shifties". They have a clutch and gearshift incorporated into the left grip tube, and a rear foot brake on the right floor board. If you want to get your feet wet, look for a used two stroke Stella. They're cheap and easy to work on. More disposable than collectible, but it'll give you a taste.

Welcome to MV. I live just up the road from you in Nashville, IN. I saw your post in the MP3 forum and I see Fuzzy told you about the Gatherings. I'm headed down for this one and I'm the only one still riding an MP3 😂. We usually discuss the location and date of the next one during the current one so keep an eye in the MP3 forum.

I love that Spada you recently sold. Way back in 1981 I bought a used 850T with a Vesco Rabid Transit fairing, and I always liked the Spada. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I've got a pin in my left ankle and while I can still shift it gets uncomfortable after awhile so sold my lady motorcycle 4 years ago. My Vespa does everything I need and is a joy to ride.

I'm sure you will enjoy yours. Best wishes for a full recovery after your ankle surgery.

Thank you very much yeah I'm very happy with it. I had a 1984 Moto Guzxi convert motorcycle which was a automatic, twist and go. I would send a default to that most times for the simplicity. Got that same vibe for the couple days I got to ride this before I went back under the knife. Thanks for your kind words.
