They were probably paying him while he drove Rally Cars also.
On a lighter note does anyone remember David Coulthard's DTM career ?

Oh and it IS over Horner.
Seems Adrian has better morals than many others at RB. Doesnt approve of creepy married men sending undesired weenie shots to women then firing them when they sound the alarm.

And if the Germans are right, stating its down to Horner and Marko, is the foundations starting to shake at Milton Keynes.
Has Lawrence Stroll extended his offer to Newey or is he shipping out to Ferrari. |

So if the power unit that you were familiar with was going to another team would it make sense to follow it ?
On the flip side if you choose to go to Ferrari you'd probably have to leave the country so you may want to keep it local. He may well just want to retire and who can blame him. |

According to BBC Sport, those rumours appear to be true now and Imminent,
Newey is under contract at Red Bull until 2025 – with an extra year of gardening leave built in if he were to leave – but it is believed he can negotiate an exit that allows him to join another team from next season. |

I agree Aston Martin looks like the most obvious choice as Newey was heavily involved in the Valkyrie but who wouldn't want to see him go to Ferrari but by the time he'd start work Lewis may well have retired.
I agree Mercedes Benz is in dire need of a good Designer and he wouldn't have to leave the UK. If all this is true I predict the slow decline of Red Bull Racing. |

Here's an Interesting statement.
Rumours surfaced this week that Hulkenberg is about to sign for several years with Audi, now called Stake F1 Team (aka Sauber). Croft thinks that the switch is going to happen. "He will be there at Audi alongside Carlos Sainz. I think that's where Sainz is heading because Mercedes will bring in Andrea Kimi Antonelli - that makes logical sense and I think Red Bull will keep hold of Sergio Perez - that makes logical sense as well," the commenter said. Gasly to leave Alpine? That would mean no place for Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou. Where should the latter go? "He could go to Alpine. Remember he was a Renault academy driver so he could go back into that stable again. Ocon or Gasly - or both - are going to have to leave Alpine," Croft said. Still, Croft says Zhou is more likely to have to watch from the sidelines next year than get a spot at Alpine. "Gasly might find himself at Williams. I am sure he's been in negotiations with Williams to drive alongside Alex Albon. That does free up a space but they also have Jack Doohan waiting in the wings who is very much acclimatised in that team. Haas? No. I think that will be Kevin Magnussen and Ollie Bearman." Zhou exit looks imminent The conclusion of the story? "We could do with two more teams on the grid." There are too few seats available for the number of drivers. If Croft has to name one driver who is going to be left out, he mentions Zhou. "I don't think you keep a driver in the sport because the popularity of that driver as such guarantees a full house at a Grand Prix. I think Zhou deserves a place on the grid. He's a much better driver than that Sauber allows him to show more often than not," Croft concluded 😉👍. |

I think that the best thing that can happen is for Newey to retire as it will level the playing friend when it comes to any team trying to bag the best designer of all time and as a result win races.
He's loaded, has many other interests plus he has nothing else to prove so why wouldn't you ? Now, having said that - If he joins Ferrari Carlos is going to be very pissed off. If he joins McLaren it will be a miracle. If he joins Mercedes Benz Max will follow. If he joins Audi it's going to be a huge struggle. If he joins Aston Martin no one will be surprised. Especially Alonso. Wink Wink. |

So Red Bull have lost their Honda Power Units, Chief Designer, possibly their CEO and maybe even their top driver.
I have a suspicion that when the reshuffles start to happen at the end of the season enough elements will have changed for the team's fortunes to take them from the default winners to being part of the top 5. |

Like I said it will be an interesting season off track, and I think come the summer break there will be a few bombshells dropped. |

Take a look at the Championship Teams who have won titles, especially recently.
Often the team that's en vogue has taken staff from the previous successful team until an aspirational team pulls the same trick and the cycle starts again. If you start to pull the threads out from something that appears to be complete it will soon deflate and as F1 team staff are incredibly fickle I can see this current domination by RB coming to an end in the next 7 months. Whether Christian Horner did what they said, when the Senior Management appear to be in conflict people very quickly start looking around to protect their own futures or alternatively they don't want to be associated with that kind of malarkey and so they start to ask if there are any positions available. It takes a long time for the dust to settle when one element changes in a team, let alone four, so I'll be surprised if RB will hit the ground running in 2025. Forgive me for saying this again but all the important decisions will be made in the Winter once the title is won.... again. |

Just few comments. No crystal ball visions.
The teams are too close for any team to find a magic pill that will leapfrog them up the grid. Newey is multi-millionaire, he's 65 years old, he has nothing left to prove in F1, He has for few years worked to distance himself from F1, only staying with Red Bull because they basically offered him part-time job, giving him free time to design supercars and boats. Mercedes lost direction when Lauda passed away. They will not find it again with current leadership. Red Bull is not in good place but they still have great design team, powerful and reliable engine, fast chassis, and fast driver in Verstappen, who is approaching the peak of his career. The wild card is Ferrari. Good car, team that has improved with their current manager, and upcoming multiple world champion. They might have kept the wrong driver, but I believe they were right in letting one of them go. |

Mercedes Benz lost their edge when they lost staff to other teams.
Lauda was only there as an adviser so he didn't have any level of autonomy in the team. That's Toto's job. |

If memory serves Newey agreed terms with Ferrari in around 2010 but Ron Dennis talked him back around.

Lauda was more than just an adviser. He had vision, and formed the direction the team would go to. He knew everyone, drove people to peak performance, and everyone listened to him. Kind of like Newey at Red Bull today. Lauda died in 2020. It's my belief that if he'd been alive Mercedes wouldn't have had the struggles they had in 21, 22, 23, and now

I don't agree as Lauda's role at Mercedes Benz and Newey's role at Red Bull are completely different.
In other news Verstappen is due to have talks with Mercedes Benz hierarchy in the week following the Miami Grand Prix. I'll admit to wanting him to land that seat. |

An official Red Bull statement on the future of chief technical officer Adrian Newey's future with the team is imminent, according to reports.
Newey's place within the team has been called into question of late, with BBC Sport reporting last week that he had expressed his desire to leave, in part because of the ongoing situation surrounding team principal Christian Horner. |

Try to put yourself in his position. You are leaving because of the bullshit that's going on at RB but you'll have at least a year where you can't work for another team.
You end up not missing the boiler room that is F1 and you have plenty in the Bank. Wouldn't you consider hanging up your protractor ? Sure it makes a better story if he goes to work for another team because the expectation comes back around and it gives the journo's something to write about and us to talk about but why not just walk away while you're on top ? |

Newey is the face on the ground and yes a brilliant aerodynamicist and design engineer without doubt but has a team of engineers and technical staff supporting him (and will do wherever he go's) two being Pierre Waché and Enrico Balbo and I think It will be Waché who takes over from Newey, I maybe wrong.
As for Newey, I'll do a Mexican hat dance naked If he calls it a day my own feeling is he will want to prove he did it with RB and can do it with another team. Remember last year with his clipboard looking at the Mercedes in Parc Fermé and the launch this year of the RB, that was last years Merc with mods to the halo to show Mercedes you did have a winning car, you didn't know how to apply the down force, even Wolfe admitted it when Interviewed regarding this years RB design, he just struggled half of the season trying to stop the Porpoising. Just had two pop ups, Adrian Newey has no interest in going to Aston Martin. And Jos has hinted that Max has got Itchy feet and is unsettled at RB in the present situation. |
