Hi there! First post, long story short I needed to replace my rear brake cable but I have the early smallframe (px cables with the loop don't work with this pedal as the cable feeds through a hole) brake pedal and I do not know how to wire my cable back through. Each way I try too, and put the pedal back in the frame,
The spring binds or makes a weird sound and the brake doesn't work, and it just doesn't go back in smooth at all.

I'll attach some pics but any help will be delightful. Maybe a video of someone with the same brake pedal as I have.
I've looked everywhere and can't find any help.

Thank you!

Dunno if I should tighten with cable in this position or with it facing the other way (shown in next pic)

If you remove the brackets, the newer cable with the loop attaches just fine…

That fiddly clamp is similar to the one on the PX front brake I'm working on right now. This will come in handy when I get to the rear brake.

That looped cable is a great fix and upgrade. Now why didn't they think of before?

So I removed those clamps and installed the new rear brake cable with the eyelet. But something's still up. My pedal makes a spring binding sound when pressed in, it didn't go back in as natural as it first came out, doesn't come back up by itself after pressed, and barely moves the brake when pressed in all the way (which requires way too much pressure to do so)…wish I could post a vid. Any ideas?

did you remove the pivot pin, clean, and grease it?

I did the pedal functions fine out of the frame but once put back it has all the problems listed above.

The cable housing may be too long causing it to make an S inside the bike when the pedal is installed, but straighten out when out of the bike.

Would that cause the spring to make contact with the frame?

it would cause extra drag in the cable, making it hard to apply the brakes as well as prevent it from returning. if the S was close to the brake pedal it could shift the angle causing it to rub the spring I guess.

If you can get the pedal out of the frame without undoing the end of the cable, then the housing is likely too long.

That sounds like my problem then. I'll take it all out AGAIN and see. If that's the case do they make custom outer cables or would I be ok to just cut it? Again thank you for the info and responding. Cheers from Portland
