Old school Malossi 210 kit I received needs a new piston. Head is too pock marked to make out any old writing. Anyone know how to tell if its an A, B, C piston? 68.3-68.4mm diameter. SIP's description shows every piston @ 68.5mm.
There should be letters on the base of the cylinder (boost port). Replacement pistons are the newer Vertex with the graphite coating, they work fine on old kits and are better. If you can have the cylinder measured it would be best so you can choose a "thicker" piston to make for wear…
If the piston is that bad on the crown, the bore may not be in mint condition. Especially at the top 1/4 inch.
+1 on vertex piston better matched than the original.
Looks like I've got the B version. Question now is single ring or double ring? I'm think double as I'm not going to be using this immediately and it will never go into anything too hot.
Stay double ring but as I said it would be better to have the cylinder measured. On most old kits I worked on we went for the next grade to make for wear and avoid the famous Malossi rattle…
