Hi
Just joined the forum and hoping to get a few answers. i just purchased the new 2023 model Vespa GTS 300 -great scooter apart from the continuous moaning and groaning it emits for a good 15 to 20 minutes from the time i turn it off to park.
Already I've had both neighbours question what is going on in my yard...and I have to tell them its my groaning scooter....lol
i've read that the EVAP system is the cause of that in earlier models. the answer pull it out and issue or problem solved.
The main issue i have not seen a clip or thread on pulling out the EVAP on a 2023. plus what parts to remove.
So if any-one can help or supply the odd photo what to remove-it would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

The one thing I can say to this is that this is seriously early in the bike's life to be having this issue. Unless it's suffered a tip-over at some point (which should be mitigated by the rollover valve, which it's there for), the EVAP shouldn't be giving you fits like this, but that's what seems to be happening. I'd be reluctant to yank the system off the bike on account of potential warranty issues, just for starters.

That it is...lol I actually saw a guy on YOUTUBE have the very same issues on his 2022 model GTS and after he pulled the EVAP system -issue solved immediately.
It would be interesing if some of the 2023 scooter owners can chime in and mention if they have or have not this issue too or is it just a random thing.
I've never struck this one before on a new motorcycle or scooter.
Scooter runs well and great to ride in all areas. Well until one parks and turns it off. Then the moaning chorus starts within a minute or so.
I also flicked the seat up and released pressure in the tank via the cap. Seat made exactly the same sound too.
After one hour i pulled the seat again and it sounded very similar to what a car boot release sounded like or just noemal.
My thoughts being if i could pull that EVAP system out it could save me a 300 mile return trip to the dealer and another 300 miles to go and collect it again.
The 2023 model looks a bit different under the lid compared to a 2022 but i thought some-one here must know the answer on how to pull the EVAP.

2023 GTS Super Sport, no moaning or other noises and I have on several occasions overfilled my tank which is when the evap will typically cause issues.

You can simply disconnect it and block the tube that would normally be connected with a small bolt or filter as some have done. Less drastic and reversible if you need to take in for warranty work.

I'd be cautious of any potential engine warranty issues if you make changes. Are you filling the tank to the brim every time? And is the length of the sound related to the amount that you've ridden it - does a 1 hour ride generate the same noise, as a 10 minute ride?

Don't think the Australian "2023" has the evap. (And they're not E5 either)

Wildbill: Can you post a photo of your engine bay and point to the bit that's making the sound?

Bike was filled up at the dealers and i rode it say 120 miles in total. Right from the start after every ride it gave that same horrible noise/bleat which went on for a good 15 to 20 minutes.
I've never experienced anything like this before and I review ALL my rides on YOUTUBE under RIDEWITHWARRO.
I'm in the process of doing reviews on this scoot now but its impossible to do a full out on the road on the spot review when for example today it bleated off 10 or 15 times in 10 minutes or once every 30 seconds...lol
I can imagine the subs listening to that and thinking a $13500 lemon when actually its a pretty good ride.
Even with this minor issue I still place it well ahead of the 2023 Honda Forza 350 and 2023 Yamaha Xmax 300 which I bought a year back and tested both back to back.
Now have the 2023 Xmax 300 which I plan to run against the Vespa GTS300 SuperSports.
Today I could not find the EVAP as shown on the superseded 2022 models. Looking at this scoot right below the petrol tank is a plastic cone type fitting and I think the sound is actually coming from it. Actually might be 2 of them.
This looks like just a fuel overflow line as it drops down towards front of motor.
I've been thinking maybe pulling the 4 screws surrounding the top of the tank and see whats behind there.
One thing I did notice from todays ride. Once home it started moaning within say one minute. I let it go for roughly 5 minutes as wife likes hearing it..lol thinks it funny.
So after the fun side i pulled the petrol cap and this time left it totally off for 10 minutes....no more noise!

100%. even moreso since merc, bmw, dodge, ford, and chevrolet were *ALL* doing exactly the same thing, but when VW got caught they said "oh we weren't supposed to do that? oh gosh sorry we'll stop" and nobody cared. they had their pariah already everyone else got a pass.

I have a '15 which should be more in-line with the configuration being described in the Wiki. In my case, 8 years and nothing as described there has ever occurred with mine.

Both my GTs (a GT200 and a 300GTS) did this after riding, especially when the weather was warm. Comical and irritating, but completely benign.

No need to start pulling things off your bike that aren't broke, unless you just want to.

My 2012 farted a lot, the 23 not at all.

one of these? if so then it's not part of the evap

Thanks for the response. that is the item I felt and thought it may be the culprit. So I will check again later today after another test ride. I think there are 2 of them in total on that one line which winds it way to the front side of motor and centre stand area.

I'd say it could be just a overfill dump line. Not sure but will look into it.

This is the evap system off my 2022 GTS. Not only does it cause the farting noise but it can also cause you to get a check engine light after an overfill of gas. I just removed it completely.

This thread has some of the most jack Assy responces. Please don't post garbage if you have nothing to contribute. Your 2023 has epa components but just a little different than the 2022. Run a hose from the top of the fuel tank to the bottom of the scooter so if you over fill it drips to the ground. Cut the hose that attaches to the intake and plug it with a golf T or anything else that will work. Happy Riding.

Australia is not America.

The person asking the question is in Australia. We have different bikes from a different factory and our bikes have different Euro standards.

Had this mooing on my 2023 GTS300 and it irritated me. So I drilled a pinhole size hole in the center of the fuel cap. Problem solved.

NB. This is a Vietnam built model, and is Euro 4, not 5. Don't know whether this makes any difference.

That's really the wrong thing to do, as petrol can be released when the scoot is on its side, especially when the engine (and therefore the fuel in the tank) is at operating temperature. That's a fire hazard.

Fitting a hose from the tank vent nipple across the scoot and then down to the ground on the LHS is the way to do it, like all the pre-EVAP bikes.

My 2019 HPE has a hose from the tank neck through a valve and down the left side of the bike as standard (and I would have thought Mike's 2023 also)
. Mine has very very very rarely mooed but has once or twice. I think the valve is a bit moody - probably after overfilling and getting fuel into the valve. Opening the tank lid does usually have a small audible pressure release sound.
