Hello everyone😊. This is just a shout out to a random dude.

Blue's rear brake has been rather useless lately and a friend suggested that perhaps her rear axle oil seal was shot.

So, I was browsing around the internet for some assistance and found a pretty helpful dude who demonstrated step-by-step how to take off the wheel and change the seal. Dude made it seem easy-peasy, no sweat. Dude even did an unconventional repair at the end of the vid with plumber's tape and said "don't judge". I kinda liked this dude's style. Decided to look and see if dude has any other helpful videos online.

I saw dude's name is CHANDLER!

I'm now just so curious if this dude might possibly have one real scarred up knee and a thing for vintage neon signs?????

Thanks, random Dude😊

I think CM might be the only one…

Boringly, I think the rest of us only have diagnostic videos trying to solve more problems than we have solutions…

But you end up learning lots on that front too… still good stuff!

Respect, Random dude.

Awww....Thank you!

I'd also like to thank The Academy, the audiences, and all my fellow scooterists who watch, sometimes all the way through, and even throw me the occasional like or comment...

Seriously, though, it means a ton to me to know my little video efforts help my fellow scooterists out.

I'm actually behind on my video production of late. I've been doing a bunch of maintenance projects which are probably helpful, but failing to get good video along the way.

Nice job on the video there, but with your seal being good, you didn't need to show how to actually replace it. I just did this and remembered that I watched Robot do the complete seal install here starting at about minute 27. I was surprised he installed the seal w/ a factory tool AFTER he installed the carrier in the case. I did mine before I screwed it in using a big socket to push the old one out & the new one in.

Has anyone tried just prying the old seal out and pushing a new one in WITHOUT removing the carrier? Seems like it would be much easier...

Good on you K32 for getting after this, you can do it! Also ,you want to make sure that the seal surface on your brake drum is clean, smooth and no nicks.

I have tried to do it without removing the carrier, but was unable to get it to seat back in because I didn't have a socket or punch that would fit over the axle. If you had that, it's probably do-able, though.

Well, your video efforts sure mean a lot to some of us who tend to struggle out in the garage. It's really nice to watch a competent humorous person demonstrate the how-to. Hope you find time to post up some maintenance vids soon. I'll check back😊

Thanks for the good info, Voodoo. But you'll have to rescind the "good on you, K32" for a bit. I started by just watching Chandler's video. Now I gotta order seal and procrastinate more, a lot more, before I get the gumption to actually DO the project. Maybe next spring, eh?😉

And even easier to do if you don't have to unscrew the carrier which can be tuff if it's been mangled as many have .

It looks like you can just pull the retaining spring...

Then carefully pound a small flat blade screwdriver into the OD of the seal until you can get under the steel shell and pry it out.

Now you can set the new seal in place

Then I found that a 1 1/8" half inch drive socket fits the seal just right to drive it in

but would be just a bit short to bottom the new seal all the way without hitting the end of the axle, so I temporarily added a second seal to get the necessary depth. You could also use an old bearing.
