Hi guys help please

Im thinking about buying a used malossi 172 kit off a friend and installing it on my vespa t5 classic.
The barrow and piston are in good shape all i need is new rings.
Can i just bolt it, up jet it and keep everything as it is with the simonini sport exhaust or does the engine need porting, another crank, bigger carb and another exhaust.

You can bolt it on and upjet and port it later on an engine split. You'll need a head if it hasn't got one (modified stock or get a new one from SIP). It would be wise to drill the main fuel passage in the carb's float bowl (even on a stock engine)…

The head has been modified. When you say port the engine later on could i not port it later on and keep it as it is. And what size do i drill the the main fuel passage in the carb float bowl.

You can keep it as is but if you happen to split the engine for whatever reason, you can port it to get the best from the kit. On my T5, I have ported the rotary, cut the crank, flowed the carb / tub / inlet and widened and raised the exhaust port…
