I have just recently purchased a PX125 with what I believe to be a malossi 187 kit in it. The seller couldnt tell me as was a trader who had bought it to sell so he said and couldnt give any real info

I just bought it as a 2006 PX125 with a "Malossi big bore kit" fitted. No more info on any work though I did ask.

I have no idea whether orig crank or extended 60mm whether or not carburettor or gearing have been changed. It does however have a stainless Sterling Right side stainless pipe fitted which is extremely noisy.

Not wishing to draw attention to myself I wish to switch this out for a standard exhaust. I know I will lose a bhp or three but dont really care. As will still benefit up hill etc over standard cylinder.

Anyway I just bought a PX200 standard exhaust for it as the folder with the docs I was given said Vespa 190 on it, so figured a PX200 exhaust should go straight on. But now Im reading that its probably bigger than the diameter on the malossi cylinder and maybe I need a PX125 exhaist which I how understand has a 37mm diameter as opposed to the PX200 exhaust which is 42.5mm I think but bigger anyway.

Can anyone confirm which standard exhaust a malossi 187 kit would fit?

I hope that makes sense…Thanks!

A 2xx exhaust won't fit a small block motor. It's not about the diameter only. Exhaust stubs come at different angles between the two…

Interesting. I thought they both came straight down. And this is regardless a malossi 187 cylinder is on there? Sorry I just want to be clear. Thanks, John

Standard exhaust is not ideal with a kit. This is not much more but sounds similar and works better.

When you say not ideal do you mean it will lack the power which its capable of or that it will damage the engine in some way?

I dont mind a loss of power till I re-pass my test. I did it in 2003 had a no fault accident on a brand new PX200 and never sent my pass certificate and licence to dvla as had lost confidence.

But if you're saying will damage the engine in some way then I will def avoid. Thanks!

A bit of both. OEM exhaust will make it run hotter, while not going as well. The sip road exhausts sound similar.

They're actually easier to ride with more power. Will be interesting to see what it is.

Marginally better than a "lurker".
Take a picture up where the exhaust manifold is. Might be enough to identify the cylinder.

If that is in fact a Malossi jug, I would say it is an old school 166 based on the cooling fin layout on the head. Nothing wrong with that. And yes, that means a PX125/150 exhaust.

Ok thanks the only reason I thought it was a 187 was cos the folder the docs were given to me in had Vespa 190 written on it and the seller who was a 1 man band motorbike trader working from home called it that a cpl times as in a 190 but claimed had zero knowledge to what had been done nor zero receipts for any kit work other than saying it was a malossi big bore kit in the ad..So I really went in blind. But hey he delivered it from Weymouth to Wiltshire too within 3 hrs! I paid £1995 all in delivered. It starts easy too tho only kickstart no electric. Again I understand could be cos modified flywheel. I do however have a new starter relay just arrived.
