Bad smog canisters. That's why it's a US and Canada only issue.

Sad, this is going to be hard on dealers. The ironic thing is that the canister is the first thing most riders remove.

I want to know how they managed to make defective canisters. It's a pretty basic item.

Agreed. An incredibly simple component to screw up...assuming this is the principal issue.

Amazing something like this could cause so much trouble. None of my bikes have any kind of emissions crap on them, and three of them are two strokes.

I'd suggest that it's a sub prime sub contracted part that's been scrutinised by BMW and found to be failing.

Wanting to avoid another scandal al la Volkswagen they've jumped on it and dealt with it in a professional but over zealous fashion.

Probably won't stop the US or the FTC from still going after them but at least they can show, hopefully, that they took action as soon as they were aware unlike Volkswagen who intentionally cheated.

What very few people know is that many other European Automotive Manufacturers were using cheat devices but VW were the first to get caught.

They have all been fined but nowhere near as much as VW.
