My GTS had been sitting on my table lift since the drive belt blew up about two weeks ago even though I have all the new parts to rebuild it.

After dismantling the transmission and viewing the mess in there (and posting like a lunatic about it here for a few days), I put it out of my mind, slunk away and distracted myself with my Triumph and the Miata.

Today, I found a pint of mojo, cleaned up and rearranged my working area in the garage to better facilitate the work ahead and will begin to put this thing back together, and while I'm at it, take a look at those teensy little valves way down there in that cylinder head.

Autumn is here, and although our weather has been great, relatively, that bastard winter can hit any time now and I want to get some good miles on this GTS yet this fall.

Nice.

Did I read/hear somewhere, that the belt/roller service is easier on the HPE?

I suspect that there may be more than a grain of truth in this.

In another year or so, I may not be a journeyman Vespa mechanic, but I should be a maintenance whiz.

Yes, that deep metallic blue fairly glows when the bike is shined up, and it contrasts very well with the few, tasteful, bright bits here and there.

It wasn't my first choice in Vespa color finish however, but where it comes to Vespa GTS300's, it's best to not be too picky around here when an available scooter pops up....which is almost never from what I can tell. I still don't know of any other Vespa machines in my area, and it's a big area...and I've lived here for thirty years.

My wife said that she spotted 'one like mine' in Rapid City several years ago, but as yet, I haven't been able to confirm it's existence....though I have seen several Unicorns in that time, a Minotaur, and one dragon, so there's always hope, I guess.

Is that the same blue that is on the Primaveras now? Blu Energica or something like that spelling?

I'm pretty certain that my GTS300 is 'Blu Energia'.

JBacklund,

You look distinguished in those suspenders, red bow tie and Irish Hat. This automatically qualifies you as a Vespa Rider. Someone unique! By not seeing Vespas, I expect in the Black Hills you are surrounded by Harley's and antelope shit. Truly, you are our guy out West.

I definitely would chose your Blu Energia color, but, my first choice is Dragon Red. I very much enjoy your posts.

Yes, Dragon Red

I think I previously recommended "Hanna Hats of Donegal Ireland" Here is my eight piece Page Boy hat from Hanna.

Hatman of Ireland gets a vote from me. I own a couple of their flat caps. The "Dubliner" and a Harris tweed one. Definitely part of the uniform for me

Oh, and the red was my second choice.

I must admit that I'm quite fond of that 'Peaky Blinders' look, all snazzy dressers as well.

Get yourself a big stoagie and darken your eyebrows with a heavy smear of greasepaint, Bob, and you could be sporting a very good Groucho Marx imitation!

Looks like you might be practising for the main performance, that is doing the valve job on the trombone which requires specific monthly and weekly maintenance. Also it needs 'thick' engine oil and a 'thin' oil according to the attached (can of worms right there.) Easy to see why you are doing the simple work first.

Me as well. I think the way people dressed in the 20s, 30s, 40s was sharp! I have a couple flat caps I bought in Ireland and am always getting compliments on them. But I may have to get a "newsboy" cap like this. But of course, you need to attitude and the cockney accent to back it up, right?! Looks sharp on these fellas though!

You oldies got a keen eye for fashion. Everything seems to trend back around, so who knows maybe we get lucky and people will start dressing (and acting) with decorum again.

But now it's TIME to get back to work Jack, the delivery date on that GTS 300 has already been missed several times 😱
