Just thought I would share my experience with a warranty claim I've just had on my 5 month old GTS super in BIANCO INNOCENTE.

Purchased the bike in April and around 6 weeks ago, i noticed some lacquer and small amount of paint peeling behind the front wheel.

I dealt with the dealer and piaggio directly and the bike went in to have the issue resolved.

When the bike came back, I could still see the old damage under the paint repair.

Again I went back to piaggio with photos and after several emails, they agreed to give me a brand new bike, but it had to be one of the ones in stock with the dealer or I could have it repaired again.

I decided to go for the new bike and the only colour they had was BEIGE AVVOLGENTE, which after seeing in person, is a much nicer colour and makes the bike look so much better than my white one.

After reading some stories of how hard it was to claim for paint under warranty, I was more than pleased at how piaggio dealt with mine from start to finish.

Top! Congratulations! I'm glad it turned out well for you. You can certainly thank the dealer for his cooperation!

Do you have photos of the actual damage and the bungling repair?

Seems strange to me that rock chips from the front tire could cause a warranty issue - or a replacement!
So - figure those must not have been related to the roads the front tire has traveled on.
Whatever - Piaggio took a different view.

O.S.

I think its because the amount of lacquer peel shouldn't have happened, its clearly failed and peeled straight off

Also the lacquer was peeling all across the panel join and they stated the paint peeled off, rather than being chipped off

In my opinion, this is not caused by stone chips. Something definitely went wrong at the factory. The painter who should repair the has no idea of his job ... be glad that the thing was changed, because you would certainly have a rust problem in a few years ...

Yeah the lacquer failed all along the panel line.

The original repair had cracked along the panel line almost instantly.

It looks like stone chip but the lacquer was freely flaking off.

Definitely would have had rust issues in the near future

Agreed. The topcoat shouldn't peel off like that, even around a stone chip.

Smart of you to take a new vehicle.
That was a crappy repair.
With modern 2 stage base coat clearcoats, the base coat color can be blended but the clearcoat which has the hardener in it is supposed to be continuously applied edge to edge, complete panels, no blending, no thin spots.
The weld joint was not an ideal break off point for clear but possible with a lot more prep and attention to detail.

I can only imagine where the butchers blended the clearcoat in, no way they clearcoated the entirety of the damaged panels and no way did they remove all the trim, moldings, emblems, lamps, plastic panels, even front fender/suspension if it obstructs continuous clearcoat of the damaged panels.

I'm not sure what was removed when they done the repair, but it wasn't done very well.

Taking a new bike was an easy decision.

Back to enjoying some rides now.

Very few vehicle manufacturers pay to do warranty paint and body work properly.
