I am the proud owner of a new Vespa GTS 300!

After driving only about 10km today, the moped seemed to be running very hot and the coolant gauge was up towards the red zone (and the top bar turned red).

Is this normal? Is it just typical breaking in? Or is there anything I should be checking?

That's not right! Check your coolant level. And report it to your dealer. They shouldn't have let it out the door without checking it over. If it's a faulty thermostat or water pump it's still under warranty.

Thank you so much for this! I've already emailed them and I'll chase it again on Monday morning.

I've had the one under red on a few times fan kicks in and then drops 2. I never thought anything wrong about it. It happens when I'm not moving much.

I think his Vespa isn't running. the kick stand light is engaged. Probably just has the ignition on.

Can you determine if there's coolant on the floor where you parked it after you got it?

It would be interesting to know if they just forgot to put in enough coolant, or if you've got a big giant leak somewhere.

The dealer responded -

The level actually seems a little low but not critical. The vase contains about 0.8L of liquid, which is a reserve for the cooling circuit.

But you're right, I have to do some checks because we recently had new vespas with badly purged cooling circuits.

If you ask me on Monday, I will be able to make sure to check it quickly and apply for a guarantee if necessary.

Just purchased a new GTS 300 HPE and took it out on first ride and experienced similar temp responses. In my case it showed all bars except for the last one the top red bar is supposed to be an icon. The manual says " When the bars and the icon on the coolant level indicator start flashing stop the engine immediately let it cool down and check the liquid level......." see page 152-154.All this is a little disconcerting. fortunately it didn't start flashing. this sounds a little like a new system glitch where the two of us experienced similar issues. I have a call into my dealer the see what the story is here

I have a 2023 GTS-300 Supertech and I bought this coolant online at Amazon and top it off myself. I believe it's the same coolant that Vespa uses.

No special tool needed. The coolant tank is located under the right knee pad and only a philips screwdriver is needed. This is all in your owners manual.

If you don't have a manual you can download one from the links on the forum's Wiki page. Lots of good information there.

Talked to my dealer all that Lexy1968 and myself experienced is all normal. It will go through all levels as we have seen and the fan will then go on to cool. nothing more or less. He further advised that they would never release any scooter without completing a full new scooter tune up. as thats not how they do things not to mention the costs they would incur ie round trip transportation.

Thank you Vesbeam for the report from your dealer. My new 2024 GTS 300 Super had a similar "nearly all the way to red" coolant temperature event in traffic yesterday. Traffic sped up and my fan did not come on. This temperature indication is higher than the analog gage on my old GTS250. Starting to look like a normal occurrence. For the other person wanting to check coolant without a tool kit, 2023 and newer GTS in USA market require T-25 torx driver to access the reservoir. If the cap is too tight you can carefully grip with pliars to loosen it.

It's been T25 Torx to access for years on the GTS 300. IIRC it changed in the middle of MY 2010.

Hello, I am currently experiencing the same issue as you. My Vespa GTS 300 SuperSport is brand new, and after riding for 5 km, the fan starts running as shown in the video. The temperature gauge rises to level 5, and the speedometer also starts moving slightly on its own while idling when the temperature increases. This happens when the bike is idling and not in motion. My motorcycle only has 20 km on it. Some service technicians say this is normal, while others say it's not. What do you think the problem might be? I'd be very grateful if you could share any actions you've taken on this issue. lexy1968

Hi Klaus.

My dealer did some work on it (he said he'd been working on several scooters with the same issue) and he needed to order some parts - but I'm afraid he never told me what these were! Good luck!!

This is NOT normal.

Have you checked the coolant level?

Also since it's a SuperSport you can connect with the MIA app and see the temperature F/C. How hot does that show - check the recording of a trip or pull over once the fans are running and have a look.

klaus's oil light is off. Maybe you're looking at something else on the dash?

Or if you were looking at lexy1968's pic (which has been solved) then you'll see that their engine is not running.

Unless the only people who bought this model are the three of you asking about it, if it was normal for the temperature gauge to go to the top all the time, you would have seen threads about this since the model first came out. It's not normal.

That image has the light for the *side stand* (which was explained way earlier in this thread by Sadragna). So we know the engine is not running.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I sent an email to Piaggio. The authorized service inspected my Vespa and stated that the temperature gauge rising to level 5 is normal. Not trusting this completely, I asked other service centers and some friends who also own a 2024 GTS 300 SuperSport. They also confirmed that this is a normal situation. However, reading the comments here has left me quite confused
