Hello

I finally got to 600 miles on my scoot after owning it for 1 year. Bad back and eye cancer will limit seat time.

I'm thinking that I used to do my own maintenance so my plan is to make a work platform for the scoot as it will be easier to work on.

Plans are made and some reality is setting in. How am I going to get the scoot up the ramp and secure it to the platform?

Forging ahead I feel I'll make a simple wheel chock out of wood. Prototype 1 didn't work, back to Lowe's and a a placed a call to my buddy. He said just get some 3/8" eye bolts and screw it into the studs.

Okay. Got my scoot secured. Slide the oil catching pan under the scoot, NOPE. It hits on the pipe and I need to raise the rear tire. Screwed 2, 2x4's together and now I can access the oil drain plug and filter. Oil change is horrible as no funnel can fit the tiny holes for the engine and hub oil. Figured that out with redneck engineering.

Spark plug time. I was able to unscrew that easily but it slipped off the socket and fell behind the cover where you plug the spark plug wire in. Got my flashlight aka iPhone and sure enough, I can see the tip of the plug laying sideways. How the frick does that happen. I didn't have a needle nose pliers skinny enough so a trip to Ace was made. I got it out right away and the new plug went right in. Dang.

The money I spent is what I call I needed the tools anyway learning experience.

Y'all have a great weekend and I'll be riding tomorrow.

Remember the engine valves have to be adjusted as part of the 600 mile service. That's one of the most important jobs.

One of mine was quite far out after only 600 miles. Engine tone and mpg changed quite dramatically after the valves were done.

The other big job on the 600 mile service is have the steering adjusted.

Spark plug didn't need doing until 6000 miles when the drive belt is replaced and the rollers inspected.

Dang. I knew someone would call me out on the valves. The plug was dirty so I changed it anyway.

To be honest, I did question my main dealer on the importance of this, and he said one of mine in particular was very far out.

I had my best ever mpg after the valves were adjusted.

Riding home 20 miles immediately after the service at 30-40mph and I got 230 imperial mpg (191 us mpg!)

Edit: Your straw idea for the oil is great! Will definitely keep that in mind if I need to top up my oil.

We lived all over the state. Mainly Naples.

I got a 2015 sprint a little over a year ago at 900 miles, the owners dad said they had the oil changed at the 600 mile mark.
I assumed no valve adjustment or other maintenance was done.
At around 1500 miles I adjusted the valves, the exhaust valves where only slightly out, bike ran good before and after valve adjustment.

Similar story, mileage, time line for a 2018 Primavera 150 I had but that one likely didn't even have an original oil change done.
Both previous owners were girls that had used them during their college days and let them sit after.
It's super easy to adjust the valves. With your wall set up and a scissors jack like the one at at scooterwest for around $100 will make dropping or raising the motor a bit for access a breeze, also get a set of motorbike feeler gauges.
I also bought the specialty wrenches for adjusting valves but it was a waste, socket end was to thick to get on the 150cc adjuster bolts.
Don't forget to loosen the rear shock, air filter and ground strap wire.
