Modern Vespa

Several MVers have sent me emails, Whatsapp messages and PMs asking after my safety.

This post is not to open any kind of political discussion.

My family and I are safe. This is a terrible time, but anything you may want to know about specifics of the situation can be found on your news outlet of choice.

I just wanted to let my friends here know that my family and I are safe.

With wishes for a more peaceful future for all.

Keep your head down...

While I know these posts are meant with friendship and good humour, we're still burying friends' kids here and hoping for news of others that were taken hostage.

I love you all and truly wish we lived in a world where such things were unthinkable.

Relieved to hear you and your family are personally OK David. I immediately thought of you. What has happened is truly unthinkable and something I believe causes permanent scars. Tanchumin.

To echo David, lets keep responses to our friend on a personal level with sensitivity to the human tragedy and suffering that is occurring no matter how well intentioned your response may be. Thank you.

Thanks for checking in David. Glad you and your family are okay. Sorry for your losses and hope things return to a semblance of peace ASAP.

Have to check in on friends of friends we spent time with this summer. With a kid in the Army and half their family there, I'm sure it's tense.

My thoughts also immediately went to you and your family, David. I am following the news intently, hoping for peace or at least stability soon.

I haven't been a regular MVer for several years but I also immediately thought of you when I heard the news. You always provided insight into what a 'normal' day was in Israel, now you're experiencing the worst of days. God be with you!

I thought about you and hoped you were okay; I'm glad you posted. More thoughts on the steps. Stay prepared.

i am so glad you and yours are ok. I have a very old friend from high school who also lives in Israel and he and his family are ok. Our thoughts are with you. What has happened is just so horrible. I will stop here.

Seeing the thoughtful and restrained responses was like a warm hug. Thanks everyone.

We are holding up okay. Since this all started on October 7th we haven't had a day without a dash to the bomb shelter as missiles rain down. And two of our three children were called up for emergency reserve army service (our youngest is on the spectrum and is in his second year of civilian national service).

Please resist the urge to be pro this or anti that. Be pro peace. That means you want everyone to win; at least in part.

Glad you're hanging in there...and appreciate your exhortation to be pro-peace. I guess you could also name it pro-humanity.

I have several Palestinian friends who I've known through the tough anti- Muslim years. I love them dearly and while I haven't been in contact since this war began, I think I'm pretty sure they're pro-peace.

I've been introduced to an Israeli-American by a friend, and her Israeli mom, sister and daughter. Son is in the army. Need to reach out to them but I'm a bit nervous. But I love them too.

My wife just met with our mutual Israeli-American physician, who's saddened by the whole mess, particularly as his niece was killed in the first wave.

It's simply heartbreaking.

I've thought about you many times but almost always when away from a device I can use for a PM. So I'm glad you posted. Stay safe and I hope those missing return safely.

Good to hear from you; you loom large in the legend of MV, at least for me. I hope you and yours get through it.

I second your pro-peace stance and on behalf of myself I'd like to add, to almost everyone I seem to talk to from all over the opinion spectrum, just don't tell me it's simple.

I've thought about you David, and relieved to know you and your family are OK. I know you only through MV, but know you are in many thoughts and prayers.
