Modern Vespa

I'm trying to get my LXV50 started. It's been sat for a year, I ran it dry when I left it, pulled the battery and I'm now back and I want it going. Battery reconnected, fresh petrol added and it's just spinning and not catching.

Am I best just cranking it with no throttle or give it some throttle as well ? I've seen a guy online with a papertowel cardboard tube blowing into the fuel tank with the engine cranking - could this help ?

Would some carb cleaner into the airbox help ? I can't believe the carbs would need cleaning as it was completely run dry ??

Any other ideas would be very welcome. Thanks.

Sounds like your battery is weak. Have you tried charging it? The carbs may need cleaning; some gunk could remain even after you've drained the tank. I've never heard of the cardboard tube thing but I can't see any way it would help.

Try charging the battery first, and if you can get a multimeter and measure the battery voltage, that may help us diagnose the trouble.
