I was not impressed with the SIP premium quality blue gasket set. It was too thick and the alignment was off for some of the bolt holes. I junked it and went with a cheap generic tan colored paper set that has worked fine.

It was similar to this one from Scooter West:

I think I used a generic gasket set too. No leaks. I ordered a bunch of extra carb and reed block gaskets.

None of those generic ones are lavender oil infused though…

This is the correct gasket set for a Stella/LML with a reed intake: https://www.scootermercato.com/Scooter-Parts/Gasket-Sets/472133

I use SIP's premium gaskets (if customer pays) and Piaggio's (thin paper type for older engines, green thicker ones for PX engines). SIP's have the same thickness as Piaggio's green ones but higher quality paper. BGM's gaskets (the ones with the infused glue) are CRAP!!!

I use original paper gaskets and SIP blue. Never have any problems.

Thanks for the responses guys. It sounds like the BGM sets are to be avoided. Come to think of it, I've a feeling that's what I used on my last rebuild of that engine, so it could well be the reason for the oil leak.

Regarding an LML-specific set, I'm not too bothered about that - I can always get the reed valve gaskets separately anyway.

I use original gasket kits + a very thin layer of Dirko HT silicone gasket maker on both sides. Never had issue.

so, you want to rebuild with the best gaskets available...

Ask Linda, hers are by far the best!

Go on... You (that know me) KNEW it was coming, but poor Norman walked smack-bang into that one!
I can smell the Lavender that will need to be applied from here

Ah, I didn't know that. It will certainly limit the choice to just the economy type then I guess ...

This.

And the reed block and airbox gaskets, but that's easy enough to cut your own since they're small.

Point taken

Strange that so many places sell the same gasket set as being suitable for both P-range and LML. I'm looking forward to cracking the cases on mine, I bet it was a P-range gasket I used when I last opened it up a few years ago.

If you have the reeded motor, I don't think you could have used a P-range gasket, unless you fabricated part of it yourself, and maybe not even then. (I'll have to ponder a little on the feasibility of that one)
