Curious, has anyone here dabbled in the dark side? Faster than an Elettrica with a greater range and you get a decent workout, at least one does at my age. Not my daily ride but it sure does turn the cow's heads as you go whizzing by.

"The Dark Side" also refers to running a car tire on the back of a motorcycle.
Just sayin'. |

Thanks Jess, appreciate the education. Also the forum and the witty sarcasm that adds mountains to the entertainment value. It's a rare combo amongst enthusiast Sites.

Clicked this looking for car tire at the rear. Found a cute electric step scooter.
These are cool. Too many cobblestones where I am for me to feel safe with this tire size, but I like to ride my Radpower electric bicycle when the weather is good. |

It's a first generation Dualtron Thunder that's been collecting dust in our shop for the last year. Got a wild hair and had a good romp with it last weekend. Top speed with my skinny body is a GPS verified (not a phone) at 52 mph with a full charge and leathers. It's a tad slower with clothing that catches the wind. 35 ah in the main battery and another 22 ah in the auxiliary battery on the front of the deck. There are only a few auxiliary batteries in the US, the last five went up in smoke when Jason's eWheels warehouse caught fire in Tucson a couple of years ago. Cruises comfortably at 45 mph. A steering damper helps at speed. Carbon fiber bars and stem tame the vibration on our country roads, a necessity at my age.

I have a fairly generic electric kick scooter, one of the same Xiaomi models that Bird was using a few years back. It's medium-fun, not super fast, the brakes are shite.
I did have one rather spectacular wipeout, going downhill. The aforementioned brakes just wouldn't slow down my momentum and I had to ditch, hitting a railing in the process. A bit banged up, but nothing broken except my pride and the scooter handlebars. |

Jess your experience is why I haven't ridden it much, prefer an ebike if electrons are involved. Current versions are faster and there are niche brands that will top 100 mph. I'd rather ride hack sidecar racing than hit the century on a kick scooter!

We have a couple electric toys.
Electric fat bikes are great in the winter here because Toronto has a ton of pedestrian and bicycle paths, always crowded, until winter time because they aren't maintained so they get all snowy and icy. On the electric fat bike you can just lower the pressure to 8-12 PSI and feel like you have the trails all to yourself! It's just a generic electric fat bike but it works well enough. I also have a Trek electric bike that has over 10,000 km on it. 6,200 miles. Trek is an American company that does high end bicycles and equipped this model with a Shimano e-STEPs system. The ebike currently has more miles on it than my Vespa and still routinely gets 50-70 miles of range with me pedaling. Other than that I rode those electric scooters you can rent on your phone all over Rome this summer and really loved it. I have absolutely no need for one but want one anyway lol
