Hello all,

I have a Vespa 100 1980 3-speed with decent torque but struggles to pass 75km. I know its not a rocket but I would expect to ride at 80km.

The setup is the following:
- DR130
- Carb 19.19 with 85 main jet (not 100% sure about the main)
- Primavera's primaries 24/61
- Electronic ignition (dont know the ignition timing degree)
- Standard exhaust (not the banana one)

Do you think the exhaust is what restricts the engine for more top speed?

the main seems that it possibly might be a bit big. exhaust is definitely robbing some potential.

are you still 3spd or has it been converted to 4spd?

it's probably a combination of too big of a main jet, timing, a poorly performing exhaust and possibly gearing. the usual death by 1000 cuts.

On my experience even my old DR 102cc(p'n'p) was happy with 90 main jet in 19.19 and Polini Banana pipe.

So if you will go for better exhaust you also will need to upjet the carb.

It is still 3spd but with longer gearing. It has a big gap between 2nd and 3rd but it is not much of a problem with a torquey kit.

I guess I will need a new performance exhaust and then reevaluate the setup.

I found faco banana and sip banana, dont really know their differences. What I would like is something to be easily get it off myself in case I need to change the tire.

Vote for SIP Banana. But if it possible - Polini Banana.

sip road banana if that's the type you're going for.

the Leo vince and polini "kidney bean" pipes that they've since renamed to "banana" are a nice match for that cylinder. polini kidney, leo kidney as is the malossi power.

converting to a 4spd gear box will make all the difference in the world.

but for now, get your set up dialed in. the power is there it just needs to be unleashed.

I tried LeoVince, Malossi and Polini on the same engine with Polini 102cc. And by my feelings Polini was the best. Then Leo and Malossi on the last place. To be honest Malossi is best with Malossi 112cc cylinder.
