Leave this answer with me while I ask someone who is more skilled at diagnostic sounds and symptom's but it may take a couple of days.

So it seems piaggio made 2 engines for the same model in 2012 then..did they carry on with this on other years..
Is there something special with the original engine like more power or is it just emissions.. The prices seem to be higher for the original engine ![]() |

I spoke to an ex Vespa mechanic this afternoon, he states I have the engine that replaced the Leader and he believes it was Chinese.
I have found stamped on the engine MC 01 IS. He seems to think I need the exact same engine, as the water pump set up is different. |

Engine prefix M455M is a UK market 125 4T ie engine
I found this quote from a post on here in December 2012, this is the engine I had in the bike as the engine number starts with M455M. Slowly getting there! ![]() |

The plot thickens!
Done some more research and it appears the engine I am after was also fitted to the Piaggio Beverley. This appears to be the same engine apart from the swingarm. ![]() |

sorry with all the posts tonight, last one I promise.
So I discover my engine is a M455M, put that in to Google and this appears advertised as a M455M engine, however the right hand side is different , doesn't have the ECS letters stamped on it and cooling pipes completely different. Totally confused again ![]() ![]() |

Quick update, finally found the correct engine from a stolen recovered bike, which had 15000 miles on it (Mine had 10000). After a few false starts; one being a broken exhaust manifold stud, the engine was finally fitted into the bike today fired up first time and runs great.
Thank you all for your advice. If anyone in the UK wants a GTS 125cc engine with the big end gone on it as a project or for spares let me know, just ask you donate a small sum to a charity.
