Hello.

Changing the tire on my BV 500, and am having trouble finding the torque spec for the swing arm. More specifically the two bolts which attach it to to the engine. They are 15 mm, and are located near the front of the muffler..

Also wanted to make sure that 85 Ftlbs was the correct torque for the main 24mm nut that holds the wheel onto the axle.

I've included a pic of one of the 2 nuts in questions in regards to the swing arm.

I don't have a manual handy but finding the correct torque may help if searching for the correct part. What you are apparently trying to find is the torque spec for the nuts that hold the exhaust bracket not the swing arm. The swing arm holds the motor to the frame. The exhaust bracket connects the rear wheel to frame and gives a place to mount the exhaust to. Typically on my Vespas, I have bolts and just snug them tight.[/u][/i]

14 to 16Nm for the muffler to bracket. That's 10.3 to 11.8 lbf-ft (or ft-lb if you must). Call that 11.

Axle nut, 104 to 126Nm - 76.7 to 92.9 lbf-ft. Call that 85.

https://manuals.wotmeworry.org.uk/Beverley/BV%20500%20E3/

They don't seem to quote a torque for the support bracket to engine in that pdf, so I imagine that'll be standard for an M8 steel bolt into aluminum - 20-25Nm (14.8 to 18.4 lbf-ft), the same as for other models - as in the GTS workshop manuals.

Thanks.

Would you suggest locktite? Not something I would usually use, but given the amount of vibration, and such in that area maybe it might be a good idea?

Nuts were super hard to get off. Had to use a breaker bar, and it looked like there was some kind of substance on the threading, though it could have just been buildup of some kind.

I wouldn't use loctite. I have belatedly realised you have steel nuts on a steel stud - just do them up good'n'tite. There's hardly any extra forces on there when the bike's running, so even using a split washer might be overkill. I've normally only seen bolts in that position - perhaps someone in the past stripped the threads and so tapped out for M10 studs?

The M10 is what it comes with. Likely just some build up. Probably never been removed.

I'll keep looking for those torque specs.

Only thing I don't know the exact torque spec for at this point is these two bolts? Anyone know? Isn't in my manual, as far as I can tell. Maybe listed under something different then Exhaust bracket though.
