Stupid electric car. I can't believe I fell for all the hoopla.
This weekend my headlights went out. Both of them at the same time. So I got online and found that it isn't uncommon for both bulbs to blow at the same time. THE ELECTRIC BULBS! Who would have thought? So I had to open the hood. I mean, I just had it open in July to dust, and here I am, just seven months later, opening it YET AGAIN!. Once I remembered how to prop it open, I went to work and it took me a whole TWENTY MINUTES! For Pete's sake, when you break that down I have spent a full ten minutes a year on maintenance on this car. My wife ALMOST had the ground beef browned for burritos by the time I got my tools put away. I mean, I got them out even thought I didn't need to use any of them. But the burritos are usually MY job. All that time spent in the garage away from my family. It's criminal, I tell you. And finding the parts? I actually had to turn down the automotive aisle at the grocery store to find them. It's good thing they were toward the end of the aisle and not all the way down in the middle, but what a hassle. I even had to wash my hands when I was done. Not that they we're actually dirty, but you just can't be too careful. What a maintenance nightmare. Should have stuck with and ICE car. I'm sure IT wouldn't have had this type of problem.

It's a slow day at work today, so I've been surfing the 'net. I glanced up at the corner of the monitor to check the time, and it said 10:12 am. I figured the day was just crawling along because of nothing to do.
Then I looked at my Apple Watch, and it said it was Noon. Checked the iPhone, and it said Noon. I checked the MacBook, it, too, said Noon. The analog clock on the wall also said Noon. I clicked on the time on the computer (PC running Windows 10), and the time & date that popped up said Noon. But the time indicator in the corner still said 10:12 am. 20 minutes later, it still said 10:12 am. So I restarted it. It now is displaying the correct time. |

Which raises a couple of questions.
If you wear a tin foil hat to prevent them from reading your thoughts what do you know that they would gain from ? Also, if they have mastered time and distance travel across a Universe do you think a bit of foil is going to stop them from reading your vacant little head ? They have spaceships and you have a pencil case. |

Phone Shops.
I have a 7 year old Samsung S9 that I'm quite fond of as it's spent many an hour guiding me across the US and Europe but it's way past it's best so to make it last a little longer I had a new battery fitted. It worked well at first but within a month the phone wouldn't take a charge too well and then it would just bomb out and switch off. It's probably the phone just failing and the battery was just a plaster so back to the Franchise Phone Shop I went to order its replacement. I asked for another Samsung Model but with a big screen as it's easier to read a Nav but this had to be ordered as they didn't have one in the shop. I was offered different brands as alternatives but I like the operating system on Samsungs so an order was made. I was told it would take a week to arrive so after 7 days I returned to the shop to be informed that it hadn't arrived and anyway they said it would be 1 to 2 weeks, which they clearly didn't and an animated conversation about bullshitting me about the phones projected ETA ensued. If it was going to take 2 weeks then I wouldn't have ordered it as my S9 was truly in it's death throws. So I cancel the phone but because it takes 24 hours to cancel the order a new contract with another phone can't be drawn up until the previous one is deleted so back to the shop I'll go today. He then informs me that they had bigger screened Samsungs in the shop at the time I ordered the other one but they chose to keep that info from me for what ever reason I don't know. Soon after I get home I receive an email to tell me that the phone I ordered and then cancelled, has arrived in the shop. Hilarious. And yes I know what I should have done in the first place. |

tl;dr: I'm pissed at my dental insurance provider, because they have their heads up their asses. Their In-Network Provider list is not accurate, and their website and app coding is for shit.
Another health insurance rant, this time it's dental. I had my bi-annual dentist appointment scheduled for Monday, January 29th, at 5pm. I showed up for it, only to be informed that they do not take my dental insurance. It turns out I had changed my dental plan from a PPO to a Dental HMO. They offered to give me the "new patient w/o insurance" discount of $79, if I still wanted to keep the appointment. I chose to pass, and find a new dentist. The next day, while on break at an off-site meeting, I open their app on my phone, click the Find Care button, and select General Dentists. It comes up with 0 results and a message stating "We were unable to load Search Results." When I returned to my office, I went to their website on the computer and performed a search there. From that search, I received a list of 9 dentists working out of two dental offices (8 from one, one from the other). The Refine Results is set to Within 10 Miles, with 25 results shown. I called the office that had 8 dentists listed and made an appointment for Tuesday, February 13. Yesterday afternoon I got a call from them stating that they do not accept my insurance at that location, but they do accept it at three other locations that are all 20+ miles away. I cancelled the appointment, and figured I'd call my insurance company today to find a provider. This morning I decided to see what came up on their website first. Same results as before. But when I change the parameters to Within 25 Miles and Show 50 Results, I now get two pages of results, representing a total of four dentist offices. I called the most convenient one (that was not the initial one). It turns out they don't take my insurance after all. So I call the odd one out from the first results. That office no longer exists. The last result is geographically inconvenient. Also, of the 15 total results, the farthest office is 5.6 miles away. So when I asked for 25 results within 10 miles, I received 10 results. When I asked for 50 results within 25 miles, I received 15 results that were all less than 6 miles away. Yeah, that makes sense. I switched tactics, and entered my work zip code instead. Again, it defaults to 25 results within 10 miles. One result came up, 2.8 miles away. Their phone number is no longer in service, and the dentist does not appear on a web search. I increased the parameters to 50 results within 25 miles, and received 5 pages of results. The same first result as before, and then 49 more dentists, all working out of the same office. That office is 4.2 miles away, but is not easy to get to. In frustration, I called the insurance provider. After explaining the issue, the agent said that there is an office within a mile of my home that is in-network. Except it's the same office that already told me that they do not take my insurance. I asked him to check with dentists close to my work. He put me on hold while he did so. When he came back, he said that the one that was close to work had a non-working number (which is how I found out, I hadn't actually called it). He then said that he contacted the office near my home, and spoke with "Neil", who confirmed that they did, in fact, accept my insurance, with no restrictions. The two appointment times he had wouldn't work for me, so I said I'd call them. When I called to make an appointment, they again said that they did not take my insurance. I told them that my insurance company just told me they did. They replied that changes happen all the time, and that it probably changed after the insurance company confirmed it. I told her that it must have happened within the last 10 minutes, because I had just gotten off the phone with the insurance agent, who had spoken with Neil in the dentist office, who confirmed that they accepted it. I realised I wasn't going to get an appointment with them at that location, so I thanked them for their time, and went back to the list. I called the office that is 4.2 miles from work. I confirmed they accept my insurance, and made the appointment. Then I called the insurance company back to let them know that their app is worthless, and their website is barely useful, and that I'm not happy with them at all. They kept putting me on hold, so i started expanding my search on their site, just for curiosity. I increased it to 100 results within 50 miles. I got 10 pages of results. The first 5 pages of results were the same as the 5 previous pages. The next 16 dentists were all from the same office that I have my appointment with. To clarify, they list 75 dentists in that office. Result #77 is an independent dentist, and is geographically undesireable. Results #78 & 79 are in a small office that is more convenient to both work and home than where my current appointment is. #80 is with the same dental provider company as where I'm going, but in a more convenient location to home and work. On most websites like this, when there are multiple pages of results, there's a page navigation "bar" at the bottom that has the various page numbers on it. It might be "1, 2, 3, ...8, 9, 10", for example. Not this one. Its formatted "<Prev Page N of 10 Next>", so when I increased the results from 50 to 100 I had to scroll to the bottom and click Next on every page of results, just to get to the new ones on page 6. I shouldn't have to do that. They should have the page navigation bar at the top of each results page, as well as at the bottom. And I should be able to click on specific pages. Again, out of curiosity, I just searched for one of the 75 dentists by last name. It turns out he's listed at three locations of that dentist office. |

We're in the same boat. We can't make heads or tails of our dentist bill because they've lumped the whole family together, failed to provide proper documents to insurance so claims were denied and continue to carry forward balances that are now out 60 days after telling us "Don't worry about it; we're still working with the insurance." ![]() |
