The trouble is I'm rolling in money right now and as I have a self imposed embargo on buying motorcycles I'd like to pay for at least one thing two wheel related.

Soo, my mother had made friends in the last decade of her life...some shared interest brought them together. Younger than her, retired, supposedly had a big insurance settlement when he was hit by a car on his bicycle.
Kind of a weird guy....sensible part of the time, other part bullshitter-liked to tell tall tales and try to pull people in. She was super quiet. Regardless, mom liked them, and we put up with him for that reason. He was kind of hyper, and if she needed something done he got right on it. He particularly liked wood projects. So over the years he made things for her. She was always appreciative, because of his promptness, and generosity-he never charged her a cent. She was always saying that he had money he didn't know what to do with.... Well, she's been gone 5 months now, hadn't heard much from him, though he'd left a plane behind from last year that I wanted to return, and he was going to try to sell her antique bed for her, and hadn't had any luck. I decided to ask for it back and we'd add it to the upcoming estate sale. As I.m talking to him, he hands me a sheet listing all of the things he did for her over the years, and the estimated value. I can't recall ever being truly flabbergasted before. He went on to tell me that as my mom didn't have a lot of money (she was all right in my mind, and she was able to pay her bills readily), so he decided to essentially pretend there was no charge and that he'd collect from the estate. ![]() Sis and I are thinking to just give him his money (around 4K) and walk away, but I agree it's probably excessively charitable. We just want him to go away and never be seen again at this point. The kicker is that a few years back she needed a new mailbox. He built this monstrosity that looked like it would be better on the bow of a Viking ship, roofed monstrosity. Mom never liked it, but was of the "beggars can't be choosers" persuasion. My sister and I thought it was an eyesore. So, of course it's on the list for $375. ![]()

I'm not being punitive here, but once AWS has reported an email address to me as undeliverable (or a complaint has been made) that email is put on the global suppression list, and I cannot send further emails to it. And that means that the only method of resetting the account associated with that address is gone. Consequences. ![]() |

I have a new white 3/4 open-face helmet in XXL that I love. However the clear bubble shield from the same company is obviously engineered for somewhat smaller helmets, and the middle snap keeps popping open in the middle of rides. Last night going 55mph it popped open and the wind caused the whole shield to pivot down and come off almost causing a wreck! Aaaaack!

Fledermaus,
That situation with the "helpful neighbor" kind of takes the shine off country folks take care of each other. He obviously wants to keep the bed. Personal opinion, I would in no way pay him anything. I would, in so many words, tell him to take his bill and shove it up his behind. He has no sustainable cause of action to recover work done over the years without a contract. Sorry for you having to deal with this guy - a perfect relection of his personal character. In contrast, I was way out in the country at Fleet Farm purchasing 100 pound sacks of Black Sunflower Seeds, Corn, and Peanuts to feed the squirrels in the forest behind my house. A younger country gentleman, parked next to me, stopped before going into the store with his wife and loaded the heavy sacks for me into my vehicle. I did not ask for help he just stepped up and did it.These folks are still the best of Americans. Bob Copeland "He's Gone Country, look at his boots, he's gone country, back to his roots". |

I simply have too much pointless 'stuff' cluttering up my life, and the temptation to have what amounts to a fire sale and dump a lot of it is pretty strong right now.
It's not like I have a bunch of spare boats or airplanes laying around, just a lot of relatively small things, but the accumulative effect (nice one!) of all if it is wearing on me. ⚠️ Last edited by JBacklund on UTC; edited 1 time

A rider killed at the local track open day on the weekend. That's 4 in 20 years which seems like a lot. Some pretty scary memories from the few I attended.
