I've been taking my work laptop (2018 MacBook Pro 15") home daily lately, so that my wife can use Photoshop on it.
I brought it home this weekend as usual, and she had it out Saturday to do some work on the freelance site. While she was doing that, I got a reminder email from IT letting me know that my password was expiring on Monday. I had left a note for myself to change it at the end of the day on Friday before I left, but promptly forgot to do that. So when she was done, I hopped on and changed my password. I noticed that the battery was low (10%), so I plugged it into the charger and set it in the bag. Sunday evening she went to use it again, and it wouldn't power on. I checked the power cable to make sure it was working (it was). I reversed the cable (USB-C) in the charger (swapped end to end). I tried all four USB-C ports on the laptop. Nothing was working. I looked up how to power on a MacBook when it wouldn't power on. I did all the recommended tips (Hold Shift-Ctrl-Option-TouchID for 10 seconds, Hold Shift-Ctrl-Option-TouchID for 7 seconds, etc.) nothing worked. Finally, in frustration, I did Ctrl-Command-Delete (Ctrl-Alt-Del for PC peeps). The computer chimed and the Apple logo appeared on screen. When it finally powered up, it had 1% battery. It would have been nice to know that I should use that key combination to get it to start. It also would have been nice to have the charger actually charge the laptop over the weekend. I went through 30 minutes of panic thinking I'd bricked my work laptop. |

On a lighter note the BMW developed an oil leak at the base of it's alternator cover a couple of months back and because it's mounted behind the exhaust headers I made the assumption that it was going to be a a header and fairing off job to fix it.
However with a bit of fumbling and cursing it turns out the Tech who had been working on Boxers for 40 years didn't tighten up the allen bolts enough the last time he worked on it and "bloop" out leaked the oil under pressure. Arse |

todays issues for me.
being told by the ortho doc I gotta have surgery on my shoulder arm for a muscle that slipped out of place or live with the pain. no therapy or manual manipulation will fix it. So now I wait for the ortho surgeon to get me scheduled, probably 6 weeks or more. I guess the only bright side is it can be fixed and fully healed before spring riding season.

A golden moment this morning while collecting my Ex up for a drive out for breakfast when her new squeeze turns up on the off chance that she was available.
A couple of things that made it funnier was that she'd just got out of the shower so it looked like my visit was "timed" and he had no idea who I was or why I was there. Awks.

Background:
We had our Department Thanksgiving Lunch today at work. We went to a diner and had lunch there. Usually I'll drive myself, and possibly one or two other coworkers will ride with me. Today I decided to ride with our Office Manager. When I got out to her car, I learned that she also had our director, the Bindery Supervisor, and the other Production Specialist with her, so there were 5 total in the car. The ride there took about 20-25 minutes. I sat at one end of the table, while the Office Manager sat at the far end. There were eight total people at the lunch. We had a great lunch, paid, then went to head back to the shop. I chose to ride with our Production Assistant on the way back, since she didn't have anyone else in the car with her, and that way the Bindery Supervisor wouldn't have to crawl into the 3rd row of the Office Manager's vehicle. Event: About a half-hour after we returned to the office, I received a text message from the Office Manager: Quote: I have day 0 of COVID. Sorry. She said everyone should be okay. but I needed to tell you. The old people r the ones at risk So now we have to figure out what we're going to do about our trip. Edit: My wife talked to her mom. We're going to wait until Monday, when I'll get tested. If I'm negative, we'll head up to visit her. |

A couple of days back I visited a local Honda dealer with a friend who has been trying to talk me out of buying a CB500X.
Next door was a Triumph dealer so we had a mooch around that and lastly Harley Davidson. The HD shop had a really strange high end boutique vibe about it which actually made me feel like I didn't belong there. It felt more like a Jewelers or an exclusive Restaurant with items that were totally inaccessible to the common man. We didn't stay long. |

Weird in a way that made it very unattractive. The staff were lovely but it's the general feel of the place that made me want to leave. |

I had a very interesting experience at the Hospital this morning.
I had an early appointment with the Cardiollogist from a reference from my Oncologist so I arrived at 8.00am as I was booked in for 8.15. They are basically trying to find out if I'm going to last into the New Year so they can justify spending lots of money on my treatment As I was sitting there waiting to be seen I saw the Cardiollogy Staff arriving which made me wonder why I had such an early appointment if the people actually doing the job hadn't arrived. Anyway after about an hour of watching other patients with appointments later than mine going in before me I checked with the Receptionist that everything was OK. I'm sure you'll be seen soon she assured me. After about waiting for an hour and a half I'd had enough so I got up and walked out of the Hospital and went for a coffee and then home. Soon after that the phone started ringing. It seems they have a list but where you are on it has no bearing on when you'll be seen, well bollocks to that. I'm really unsure about you asking me to attend at a specific time and then expect me to wait until everyone else but me is seen. Na, see ya. |

Many, many years ago I had a dentist appointment. On arrival, the (must have been) new receptionist found my file, and added it to the top of the pile. I was a bit early, so people with later appointments would come in, and then their files would be added to the top of the pile. The dentist comes in to collect the next patient, takes the file on top, and calls out the name... I erupted, and the rest of the waiting patients joined in! |

In all seriousness it's not just me is it ?
I'm given the option to pick an early appointment to get it out of the way and to free up the rest of my day but no, they couldn't seem to honour that. I then get a frantic phone call asking me to come back to the hospital so that they can start the procedure or return later in the day. It's too late as I've wasted enough of my day already. I looked at my phone and told myself if it reached 09.45 I'd walk. I walked. It was quite empowering. |

Customers that don't understand that washable air filters are, well, washable. The reason we don't carry them as spare parts is because they are washable.

That's the phrase isn't it. Wasting my time.
It's just like the people who will consistently arrive 30 minutes late and think that that's OK. I'll be punctual, maybe even arrive early just so that I can be seen on time and they can get on with the rest of their day but the dynamic doesn't work like that does it. Recognising when you are having the piss taken out of you and that you've had enough is an underated skill. You have a choice and you can leave. |

Since Covid it seems folk just don't give a flying fuck about good service anymore. I know a lot of people are busier in all walks of life, but common courtesy of letting customers know things are running late is non-existent! and to think, I did Clap For Carers every Thursday evening at 20:00 for weeks |

I guess that's what happens when health care has a monopoly. You don't have a choice unless you want to go Private in the UK.

The price of the stupid cat treats our two furry children are addicted to, thanks to the supremely kind woman who captured them as feral kittens, socialized them to humans enough that they were adoptable (well, sort of), then got them hooked on these little bags of EFFING GOLD freeze-dried animal matter things, that at $6.99 per 1.25 ounce bags, would run a tick under $99 per pound.
But we love these little poltergeists, and because it's my fault that every night before I head off to my sleep chamber, I have them accustomed to, and expecting, a small handful of these stinky treasures before my conscience will let me sleep. So there it is, and I'm spending over twenty bucks for three depressingly skimpy bags of 'premium cat treats' about every ten days or so, and that doesn't include the cheapo daytime cat treats we still buy to supplement their champaign-grade evening pre-beddy-bye kitty treats fix. I probably shouldn't complain, at least I never had any human children to spoil and maintain. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The last time I had a Doctor's appointment in the UK, it was for 09:00. About 20 other people were in the waiting room - I enquired of my neighbour what time their appointment was, and he said 09:00. Everyone else started to chip in - all had the same time!

Oh, yeah, while we were away this last weekend, our water heater took a crap and semi-flooded our house's lower level.
Many pails of sopped up water poured down the bathtub drain, and $2200 for an emergency new water heater purchase and installation later, we're approaching some form of normalcy. Such is life. Our spirits were, as they say, 'dampened'. But on the bright side, although they're predicting 1-3 inches of snow for us starting Wednesday evening, and a substantial dip in temperatures for the next week, tomorrow is predicted to be 64 degrees, so I will be able to take the Triumph up to Deadwood for very welcome mid-autumn coffee break.
