Yesterday, some asshole parked a 45 foot touring motorcoach in front of our house, blocking about two thirds of our driveway's width in the process, then apparently just walked off.

I was about to contact the local authorities and demand that something be done about the situation when Sparky told me that I had parked the bus there no more than an hour ago, came into the house and made a lunch of leftover tomato noodle hot dish and cold crescent rolls, played with the two cats for a few minutes, then nodded off on the living room couch.

Getting old is a bitch.

Got an email to tell me that the Royal Mail would be delivering my parcel today so I stayed home in expectation of a knock at my front door..

Just got an email to say that it will now be delivered tomorrow when I'm not here.

Awesome.

Did the Royal Mail specifically indicate that they will deliver when you're not there? What kind of parcel sorcery is this? How did they know?!

JBlacklund,

You did not remember parking the bus in front of your house? Well, that gets you the Number#1 memory award. Sometimes, I will walk into another room and forget what I was going there for - then in a moment - the reason floats in.
This getting old stuff is crazy.

To be honest it seems quite the norm these days. People with no respect that always want a handout but don't want to put any effort in. I'm all for working hard and helping others when I can. I thank my parents for being good at discipline and making sure I knew wrong from right.

Indeed. The woman we rented to kept the place spotless. What we didn't know was, she remarreid and moved and her 20-something derelict son and his girlfriend were living there. She still paid the rent, but when I went in the place to let a window contractor in it looked like squatters had moved in. Lost count of the empty liquor bottles and overflowing ashtrays that were surrounding the cage with the pit bull in it (no pets allowed per the lease).

They're out now, I'm billing her for the damages - which I'm sure will have to go to collections. The house was built in 1914 and was a nice little place when we rented it.

On the bright side, even if we sell it as-is and take the loss, we'll come out of it OK. It's worth more than we paid for it, and we've collected rent for four years. Pisses me off, though, because they effectively knocked about $40K off the value of the place.

It's not really a Pissed Off moment but I have decided not to buy anymore motorcycles this year.

Now that the KLV and V7 have gone I have space in the garage and money in the Bank which is an interesting novelty.

I just know that the circle of spending will start spinning again if I go shopping and it will put the other two on the back burner and that's just being greedy.

It can wait.

DaleB,

I use to think folks did not take care of a place unless they owned it. Not true, slobs are slobs. I admittedly am kind of a clean nick. My Mother would have me vacuum the house everyday. Turned me into Felix Unger (Tony Randall) in the sitcom "The Odd Couple".

Another unsuppoted observation: With married couples, at least one of the two has to be a cleaner or their place will be a dump.

DaleB, sorry about your situtation - being a landlord can be tough.

My wife wanted to have some income producing property for our retirement and bought two duplexes in our historic neighborhood.

Both were built in 1925 and are well constructed with brick veneer on the exterior and quite original and in good condition.

One of the properties has a garage apartment that was rented to a young woman.

She had problems with the air conditioning that needed an AC company to come by to make the fixes.

My wife let them in and was shocked by the condition of the apartment.

There wasn't a piece of floor visible as everything was covered with her hoarded stuff.

The small screened porch was packed with bags that turned out to be her garbage as she couldn't bother with taking it downstairs to the garbage cans.

Luckily she moved out without any problems but it cost a few thousand dollars to clean up her mess and repaint some rooms.

My wife manages these so I rarely have to get involved.

Most tenants have been fine folks, but a few have been less than desirable.

No biggie. It looks like we could sell it as-is and still come out OK, or do some less involved refurb and keep it as a moneymaker. I'll bill the original renter on the lease (the mom) for the damage; she pays or she doesn't. It's not the end of the world either way.

Every lesson in life carries a tuition payment, and we've gotten our money's worth of education from this. Guarantee it won't happen again.

This bubble wrap is pissing me off today.

It's not because it was unnecessary, though it was in fact unnecessary for the contents it was wrapped around.

And it's not because it is plastic where some recyclable kraft paper would have sufficed, though that is also true.

It's because the bubbles in this sheet of bubble wrap are un-poppable, eliminating the only redeeming quality of bubble wrap.

Some unspeakable monster has designed this bubble wrap such that each bubble has a small passage to the bubble chambers on either side of it, so when you squeeze one, it just redistributes the displaced air to the network of bubbles in that row. The resulting air displacement, divided across all the bubbles in that row, is insufficient to rupture anything except my excitement.

And that is what's pissing me off today.
