Our spirits were, as they say, 'dampened'. But on the bright side, although they're predicting 1-3 inches of snow for us starting Wednesday evening, and a substantial dip in temperatures for the next week, tomorrow is predicted to be 64 degrees, so I will be able to take the Triumph up to Deadwood for very welcome mid-autumn coffee break. old as dirt wrote: say what???? $2200 for a new water heater installed????? that's insane. your talking $5-600 maybe $800 for the water heater and it should take no more than 1.5 hours AT THE MOST so even at high labor of $100 hr your at the tops $1k ok so add another $200 for shits and giggles. I was preparing my house for sale and the old water heater was just sort of limping along. Got quotes and was like "aw hell no". The plumbers that I contacted, three or so of them, all REQUIRED that they install a certain brand that happened to be not only very expensive, but also not available at Home Depot so no price matching. So I put it in myself for that ~$600 or so you mentioned. But yeah, have someone else do it and apparently you're not only paying for their time but also their boat, too. |

Last post on the subject.
When the Hospital called me back about my "Cancelled" appointment I corrected the Member of Staff by reminding her that it wasn't cancelled. I was on time and I was ignored and that if it happens again I'll leave. I understand that when it comes to Health Care you often have to wait for a while until your name is called but it's the assumption that you will sit there like a twat for a couple of hours and not kick off that particularly annoys me. On a lighter note....... |

He was stuck on the short end that was less than the diameter of the water heater. Anyway, as always on these things, YMMV. |

Today I chose my Xmax to ride to work.
It was low on fuel so I stopped at the neighborhood gas station, where I had filled up my truck last Saturday for $2.949/gal. I didn't even look at the prices and hit the regular fuel button, then started to fill up. I then looked at the pump and the fuel was costing $3.989! After I finished, luckily using less than three gallons, I noticed that the mid grade and premium were less expensive. Certainly strange and unexpected. Luckily my inattention only cost me three dollars at the most. Bill |

4.5 Litres in an Imperial Gallon so that's £8.86 or $11.07 Thank you. |

Speaking of gasoline station 'fun', here's a 20 second video I shot last weekend of an Oklahoma (US 'Bible Belt') gas station force-feeding me a church commercial while being held hostage pumping some 89 octane dinosaur juice into the Subaru.
Lots of ambient racket going on here, so the volume has to be turned up if you want to hear 'The Message'... https://youtube.com/shorts/LzIJZwcvlm4?si=Ri_tVFRVhWnCD9rM |

JBlacklund,
My gas utility company offers the service of replacing your water heater for $800. They take away the old heater and even put the $800 on your next monthly bill that you can pay over 10 months. Pretty slick. My kids are grown up and gone - so I do not need the expensive huge capacity water heater. Bob Copeland

Bill,
Regular more expensive that premium - crazy! Something silly going on there. Fuel seems to have always been more expensive in Europe/UK. I am not sure, but I think their high cost has something to do with heavy taxes. Bob Copeland |

Dog,
I think you have universal health care in the UK. It seems when the government is involved it will be "slow to go" and long waits. Having said that, over here it is pricey. Even with good insurance, the deductibles and out of pocket expenses are high. My wife and I had a couple of health issues this year - had to pay +$6000. So waiting in line in the UK may not be that bad. Bob Copeland |

Before Medicare my wife and I were paying as much as $3,000 per month for health insurance. Owning your business has its downside. Bill |

The issue is that there aren't any spares to repair the bikes with. Don't buy a BSA Goldstar. |
