Dr Who is pissing me off today. Not the low-key, weird, Brit Who. The soon to be Disney Who. Big budget, no soul, reason for a rip-off ride in Disney*. Why do they do it?

Several. 3+ decades ago I married a woman whos skin tone didn't match mine. A branch of the family couldn't deal with that, so I quietly removed the entire branch from my life. Still married to the exotic beauty I chased in freshman year of university. Don't miss the family at all.

That makes it sound like it was done out of greed. In point of fact, though, it was done to increase the production budget without eating into the BBC's limited funding (which comes from TV license fees). In return, Disney got exclusive rights to stream the series.

Considering how iffy it has been in the past to access Doctor Who in the US, I count that as a positive thing.

I've read some interviews. Sounds like a decent sort of guy, but it's hard to say from an interview. Amazing he's still up and kicking.

Came in this morning to my third shift tech asking if I liked his plastic window.

He drives a Kia Sportage. Parked in front of the guard shack. Someone smashed his passenger window and tried to steal it last night. Fortunately, he's been though the updates and it wasn't stolen, just the broken window and damaged column. Still drivable. He's calling his insurance agent now.

Police told him it's unlikely they'll catch them, and they're probably minors, so if he wants to pursue it it's at his cost.

Not really "pissing me off", more just really disappointing.

My father is a truck driver. It's all he's ever done, and he's been doing it since he was 16 years old. I'm fairly certain it wasn't legal for him to be behind the wheel of a big rig at that age. Behind the wheel is his 'happy place' though, he loves his work and has no desire to retire.

This winter he was hospitalized with heart attack symptoms. It turned out to be blocked arteries. Some stents were placed and he was recovering well. He was looking forward to getting back to work when he could.

Last week he was informed that his license to drive the big trucks has been revoked for medical reasons. I understand. This is necessary for public safety and I won't even attempt to argue that it shouldn't have been done.

When he told me about it he said "It's ok. Sixty years is enough". But his downcast eyes and slumped shoulders said otherwise. He knew, as we all did, that this day would come eventually. That doesn't mean he was ready for it.

....so the cops cleared him to hire a vigilante? Cool.

Yes ... yes, I suppose they DID, didn't they?

Replacement shifter for the Cub not arriving until Friday now.

Storms last night. I think it's a new warning system, cell phone alert told us to get to the basement, NOW. Our radar showed the storm a good 15 minutes out yet, seemed pretty quiet outside. Tornado warning, possible 1" hail, high winds. If I lived alone, I'd be on the balcony staring into the wind and rain for a funnel cloud, or anything suggesting I needed to be in the basement. Probably fortunate for me, my wife wouldn't have it, so, off we go.

After 5 minutes there, I suddenly remembered that our neighbors don't have a basement, so we texted them to invite them into our currently very cluttered space. We hung out for an hour, when it was supposedly over. No hail, no tornado, just a lot of wind and rain. I know, all for the best...kind of like not needing your airbag, but thunderstorms are one of the best parts of summer for me, and they're few and far between lately. Call me weird....

I did major prep before the storm...hanging bird feeders down, swing canopy off, even managed to weigh down the collars I use for my young garden plants to keep the rabbits off.

I'll take a moderate storm next time, please.

Have the twin to that one out in the garage! Only thing is this one has right around 27,000 miles on it! Still looks great and I did a ride of around 50 miles on it a week or two ago.

Only problem was the wind that day. Not sure what the wind speed was but while riding home with wind to my back at 55 mph I could not keep up with the shadows the clouds were putting on the road.

Just notice in that ad where it says 2 owners and only 3,000 miles! To me that's kind of sad. I'd have to do some digging but think wife had that much on hers the first year she had it and she did not have her license for the first month she owned it!

Wife is trying to decide about selling it as last fall she got a CanAm Spyder, a little bigger ride!

The 145 mm replacement shifter for the Cub isn't long enough to get my Size 9's around it.

Ordered a 170mm.

So many garage queens out there, it's a shame the owners didn't get to enjoy them much. I took a local one that was up for sale on a test ride. Loved the look, hated the seat, so I took a pass. I just finished up maintenance on a 2007 GTS and I like the seat on this one so much more as it gives you more room to move around.

I feel for you and your dad. I was a plasterer for 47 years. I was a sixth generation in the trade and I really did not want to give it up. But with 2 back surgeries behind me and one ahead, it was time. Luckily for me, my 6 month old grand daughter fills my life , so I'm not so pissed off about having to quit anymore. That and I have the time to ride more - to go see my grand daughter, of course.
Your dad needs to find his passion in some other way. Not easy I know, but now he has time to explore it. And a big thank you to you, Theayn, for being there for him.

My addled neighbour who has a Court Order against her for harrasment came around today wanting to engage me in conversation and after repeated requests to leave my property ( she was talking to my front door ) I just called the local Police to resolve it.

I really crave the simple life.

I know it is important to keep hackers out. But, what use to be a couple klicks on the keyboard has turned into an extended verification proceedure.

As an Independent Insurance Agent, I represent approximately 10 different companies. Each has a differen log in procedure that is really time consumming. I have to apologize to customers as it takes me so long to get into their company to conduct business.

There was a gentler time for this old goat who has been dragged screaming into the digital world.

Bob, this old goat has been deeply involved in the digital world since about 1979. It's every bit as irritating and frustrating for me. Every stupid website and half the apps want 2FA, with a random assortment of text messages, emails, and authenticator codes.

I'm ecstatic to be leaving it behind as a profession and wish I could dump most of it personally as well. What I once loved deeply is now just a massive pain in the ass.

This hotel sucks.

But at least i'm a fall risk

It's Walter Reed, and they're back and forth over whether I need to stick around all weekend til the doc sees my MRI, or if I can go put a buttload of ice on it at home all weekend instead, and leave the bed for someone who actually needs it.

Well, the latter sounds a lot more appealing. Not wonderful, by any means, but there is nothing like home unless you have a better alternative.
