If we are going to talk about idiocy and mendacity we are going to get perilously close to politics. While politicians may not have an actual monopoly on stupidity they seem to have a lot of the market.

I had my first post surgery appointment today. Things are going well. So what's pissing me off? Doc said no riding for at least six months, maybe a year. Bummed, but thankful for everyday above ground and walking around. Stilled bummed, though.

I hear you. It was 2 ½ years for me. The first ride afterwards was sublime! You can look forward to your new first ride.

Tierney/Olde Rider,
I also could not ride due to broken ribs. I was missing our local group rides so bad, I got several others in the group (Also could not ride) and we tailed the group in my car. The group looked great while riding tail and we could gab it up at the rest stops and lunch. How pitiful was I? I would sit on my Vespa GTS Super up on it's center stand and look out the open garage door. Occasionally, I would say "Vroom, Vroom". Bob Copeland

Well, not today, but still suffering from the fallout. We made plans to take a few days off to look at fall colors, which weren't much around us, but the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was looking good, so packed up and headed out. We arrived at our hotel, and I started pulling things out of the car. I got almost everything out when I noticed the absence of my bag. #$%*
Best guess is getting distracted in the chaos of leaving. Somehow it didn't get 'staged" by the front door.... Being without general travel stuff was inconvenient, but I've been married to my CPAP for at least 5 years and gotten kind of addicted to it. My wife has too, in a way as she gets to hear me snore badly without it. I could live a few days without my BP meds, but should have them. As we'd driven 3+ hours and dusk was coming, we were committed for the night. Ultimately decided to tough it out. Colors were great, and daytime activities enjoyable, but we were sooo happy to get back home..... Anyway, we did survive, and it will be a long time before I pull that trick again.

I'd never heard of CPAP machines before coming to North America. Perhaps there's money to be made persuading people it's the only way to stop snoring. Me, I'd get tangled up withing minutes. From https://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/sleep-apnea-devices-market :

Spotify.
If I create a playlist for a long journey then press shuffle, why does it start repeating tracks 20 minutes into an 8hr playlist? Because it's a load of shite, that's why.

seamus26 wrote: Corolla Cross, blah, blah, blah. The kicker is, the rear camber, which was good 2500 miles ago, is suddenly out on both sides. Spec is +0.7º to -0.8º. Ours was -1.2º and -1.3º. It gets better. From the factory, that is not adjustable. The tech informed me, "Yeah, the only way we can correct that is to install after-market control arms on the rear with adjustments." I didn't say very rude things, but I was thinking them. So, according to Toyota, unless I put after-market parts on my new car, it will forever be out of spec. They wanted to keep it, so they comped me a new Camry to drive, which I am still driving today. I talked with service last night and was told they had done everything Toyota had suggested including "moving the subframe". The rear camber is in spec (just) on one side and barely out of spec on the other. I'm supposed to pick it up after work. The saga continues. |

Riding back to work today...the ride starts out rural with town roads. One of my turns is onto another road with stop signs for intersecting traffic. I'm slowing down, signals on, and see a pickup truck at the stop sign. (I'm grousing a bit as it seems everyone likes to stop 10 feet beyond the sign which forces me to slow down to square off the turn, but I digress). About 75 feet out, he decides to pull out anyway. I hit the brakes stopping about 30 feet from him halfway into my lane. I make a palm up sweeping gesture, half WTF? half a sarcastic "please be my guest." He. Sits. There. I wait. The seconds tick by. Another driver who had arrived at the opposite sign blows his horn breaking the impasse, and he finally leaves.
I thought later I could have gone as he'd been stopped, but it wasn't my place to awkwardly navigate around him, and another car had arrived behind him so backing up wasn't an option. It really didn't piss me off much, it was more like a "what are you doing, dude??" |

Bloody Ebay. I wanted to make an offer on a campervan in the UK on ebay.co.uk, using my ebay.co.uk login, but despite being on a VPN Ebay flags up "Sorry, this item cannot be shipped to the US, try again for other sellers".
I guess I have to blame all the scammers. |

TSA stole a credit card sized multi-tool i've taken through checkpoints easily 20 times. The woman said no tools, i countered with their actual policy that it has to be 7 inches or more, and she shrugged then handed it to a coworker who smiled and put it in his pocket immediately.
And if you attempt to stop them from blatant theft they claim you're "abusing" them and threaten a $13k+ fine. Duck TSA. Nearly a quarter century, billions spent, zero terrorists thwarted. |

Weird video I saw on YT........there is a "couch surfing" ap. So, people sign on to this, and let people crash on their couch on their way. I have a hard time going to sleep not knowing where my pets are. With a stranger sleeping on the couch? Am I missing something? I think Air BNB is a little weird. That said I have always been respectful to the places I have stayed in. Let's get back to this.....letting people stay on your couch? For free? I have heard of some idiotic stuff, but this checks all the boxes to 10/10.

For reasons I fail to understand the ring volume on my phone keeps going down to near silent on its own accord.
It's pretty much a daily thing. I have to check the volume every few hours. I do not have it on do not disturb. I googled it and I'm not the only one with this problem. There are plenty of suggestions on how to stop it from happening but none have worked for me. When I got a new phone a few months ago I hoped it would stop but no. I can't count the number of calls that I have missed. At least if I do miss a call a telephone handset appears at the top of the screen and I can call back. |

Despite being hounded day in/day out about "BURN PIT REGISTRY OMG" (regardless of the fact I signed up for it in 2017) and having not one but TWO of the incredibly painful and debilitating conditions they claim are "presumptive" (like agent orange/diabetes from vietnam) the VA still elected to rate me at a whopping zero percent for burn pit conditions.
Thankfully nobody's allowed to sue the government or Halliburton/KBR for the effects, though. So that's good news. |
