When two workshop manuals say the torque is 42nm and you break three bolts trying to achieve 42nm. Yet the more powerful big brother version of what you're working on has a spec of 16nm for the same part.

Back in the day, I had manuals from all the publishers to compare notes. When I started using Alldata, everything broke loose.
I can't remember the exact wording on the factory manual for Vespa, but it was so crass, I couldn't not love it.
Basically it said if you need this to do basic repairs you shouldn't be using it.
After years and years of about 30% of customers just looking for a fight or argument about simple mechanical maintenance. I sit like a Cheshire Cat.
You can literally lead a horse to water and shove his head in it. He'll drown instead of drink.
I had a 30 day trial period on Alldata, one car, out of market. I don't throw good money after bad. Even if it's free.

I learned how to sift through the garbage for information I didn't already have.
23 companies in a class action lawsuit sealed the deal recently.
I can tell a mechanic online or in person pdq, it's a cult. Trust me.

What size are the bolts? I'd assume at least 3/8" Grade 8 for 30-35 lb-ft.

I see inch pounds, "in pbs" ~abbreviated

Ft pounds

Newton Meters NM

None of it looks confusing to me.

I get it, the industry under the guise of the environment have been trying to keep a closed hood policy for years and years.
I can tell by the hardware and its use what the given torque value is.
It's like looking at a type of screw driver and knowing where it goes.

Bolt was a 6x19. I snapped two from an aftermarket kit and one new Honda OEM. I do not have info on the bolt grade

In the states it is commonly referred to as "foot pounds" or "inch pounds" when speaking. I have never heard anybody say it the other way around.

Not only that it is printed in the manual with the "force" last. I read "ft-lbs" as "foot pounds" not pounds foot but then I drive on the right side of the road too!

Gotcha! I had to have feelings and realize that authors, editors , publishers, company owners, mechanics, engineers, insurance companies, lawyers all had to sit in a room together. A 🐝 on the wall.

I'm still not saying it that way, I'm still calling it a fucking shovel...

When they were doing some remodeling to the convent the language of the construction workers was very upsetting to a particular young novice.

She went to see the Mother Superior to complain about the foul language. She was in tears describing the horrible language she was hearing.

The Mother Superior tried to comfort the young novice...explained that they were simple men with simple lives and simple language...that they simply called a spade a spade...

"No they don't" shrieked the young novice, "they call it a fucking shovel!"

This isn't really pissing me off, but just highlighting life's stupidity.

I recently (finally) cancelled my 25 year subscription to Directv. I know - I'm a Luddite

My account wound up overpaid by $0.01. Today, I received a gift card for a PENNY. They probably spent $50 to send me a penny, which I'm never going to spend, so they'll spend additional dollars bookkeeping the gift card and eventually sending it to the state under escheatment laws.
