There's also the factor of having the exit becoming a little glued together which can initiate all kinds of unintended consequences.

Reminded of a nearby Swiss-American village. One of their historic bar/inns has the largest urinal I've ever seen. Enough to inspire a postcard.

Back in the day, most urinals were "full length". Yes, I'm that old.

The Natural History Museum in Los Angeles used to have urinals that were big enough to walk into.

I miss them.

It's a public school district. So we have all kinds of rules & regulations that we are required to follow that most private businesses don't. That means that something take much longer than they would out in the "real" world.

Most of what is going on doesn't really piss me off so much as it's a minor annoyance.

The elevator that broke on Tuesday was repaired yesterday. I still haven't used it, because it's now being heavily used by the warehouse staff. And climbing the stairs is healthier for me.

If it wasn't for a constant streaming of South Park on hotel TV, it would be absolutely, completely, insufferably, unbearable.

Nothing but a million god-awful sports channels and blabbing home-shopping meat-puppets.

Ok, as long as I'm bitching about hotels....when did they all install those little baby toilets that require the assistance of a block and tackle to extricate one's self from it's shin-high edifice?

The Dutch shelf-toilet pretty much requires you to sit while peeing. And for number two you can inspect your efforts in detail before letting the water whisk them away.

It's not free time, I'm a paid prisoner of my job as a charter bus driver taking high school sports teams to their regional events, and I spend a lot of time sitting around in hotel rooms doing nothing but contemplating the Universe, my navel, and the minute conundrums of everyday life, such as low toilets.

I actually DO have too much time, but it's definitely not "free".

Right now, I'm in a hotel in Gillette, Wyoming on a
two-night trip with a Rapid City high school wrestling team....all of fourteen people in a fifty-six passenger Vanhool motorcoach.

I'm laying here in my hotel watching a South Park marathon, posting on Internet forums, and wondering why I'm not doing other things.

Found out more info about the work elevators.

The elevator that's waiting on a part will be out of service for at least two more weeks while we wait on the arrival of that part.

The other elevator was officially put back in service today. What caused the issue was the warehouse staff not being careful with the pallets that they load, and the pallets were over the yellow line, thus causing the doors to hit the pallets when they try to close. After enough times of doing this, it stressed the chain connection enough that it broke, trapping 5 guys on the elevator.

So basically some moron didn't follow instructions.

This nonsense. Getting a slew of these this year. Must be something about turning 68. Cripes, I'm not even limping yet and they want me to plan my burial.

Not necessarily a bad idea, I guess, my mother prepaid hers, but I think she was close to 80 at least and had been through a few health scares. It did make things fairly seamless. OTOH, my wife and I aren't even sure where we'll end up and have very few ties to the community, nor do we want to be buried. So, nice try, but no thanks.

I agree that this is a poor holiday message. That said, accepting the inevitability of death (and planning for it) actually makes a lot of sense.

But do it on your terms, for sure. I'm sort of intrigued by stuff like this. I don't want to be buried either, but I wouldn't mind my carbon atoms being incorporated into a tree and living on in arboreal form for another couple hundred years.

Certainly better than taking up space in a cemetery.

Aquamation would seem to be eco-friendly and a reasonable way to get recycled.

No problem there. I think one of the bigger advantages is if there's concern over having enough funds for the inevitable.

I'm all for the greenest option...as long as it's not the priciest.

I'm not necessarily looking for the greenest solution (though that's at least on the list). I just like the fact that carbon atoms are ridiculously long-lived, your body has a bazillion of them, and those carbon atoms can go on to be something else when you're dead. Why not a tree, rustling in the wind long after I perish?

It's the closest thing to an afterlife that I can believe in.
