I lied again, and I don't care. The Modern Lovers started with a kid from Boston who at one time slept on Lou Reed's couch for some time. Or that's the story. Jonathan was in love with Velvet Underground's music, but Jonathan was never that serious. The Modern Lovers broke up and Jonathan went solo, releasing loads of good, often funny songs. Like this, enjoy:

A good bass line to wake people up. I play this and get my drummer to dig along. It's a fun jaunt.

Fun song. Don't ever give up on those that you love, and more importantly don't give up on yourself. You just may have another chapter.

Colin Hay is a favorite of mine because we both have lazy eyes. His studio is called "Lazy Eye Productions". The fellow on horns and back up vocals is Greg Ham. An amazingly talented musician that was lost way too young.

In 2013, the BBC Proms showcased Frank Zappa. So already regarded as 'classic' by the 'cognoscenti'.

I saw James McMurtry in a dive bar some years back, in my home town. As he tuned and talked before playing, he complained about a buzz in his monitor. James and the band played a song and he complained again. After the second song, he put his foot through said monitor, cussed, and played for a couple more hours. Best songwriter out there, now, in my mind.

Anyone know Ryan Bingham"s music? He has created music for a couple modern Westerns, and has an incredible voice. Listen, this video is even Holiday related.

Right on, Syd. Two fine contributions! As far as the monitor......it's just a monitor. Destroying one to stop a buzz is understandable.

Used to run into Lemmy now and again at the Rainbow on Sunset in L.A. He'd spend the afternoon dressed in cutoffs, denim shirt, leather vest, and the ever-present hat, inhaling bourbon and Coke and switching between "guarding" the bar's poker machine and playing it. He was a stone groove -- always seemed to enjoy chatting up folks (even me), so long as the folks weren't A-holes. AND he played a (modified) Rickenbacker 4001 bass. Not a darn thing wrong with any of that!

I woke up to this song at 5 am on a morning several years ago. Some songs just snatch you. The perfect time for a perfect song. I listened to it that morning and charged into the world like a black rhino. This is a "take care of business" song, no doubt.

I'll end my night with this gem. Thom said the "lollipops and crisps" line came from a story in the UK about a small boy that got left for several days. He survived on lollipops and crisps.

My wife and I were in Clarksdale, Mississippi in early January to meet up with Ken Wilson's family to spread some of his ashes in two of his favorite places.
On the last night, we decided at the last minute to catch some Blues in one of the few remaining clubs in town. We tried one, but it didn't have a performance that night. The owner suggested we try Red's, where Anthony "Big A" Sherrod was playing at a tribute to Red, the owner who had died that week. We went into the tiny club where Anthony was playing with a drummer and base player. There were not more than thirty people inside and his performance was incredible. We stayed until he closed. I found him on Spotify and listen to his one album more than anything else these days. Bill Scott Wilson, Me and Anthony during a break. You don't get to talk to Taylor Swift at a break in her performances.
Anthony at Red's.

For years, I blamed my tinnitus on this song which I played repeatedly while on a self-imposed sabbatical from college. The long, lean note always gets me.

At the 1998 Grammy Awards, Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti - who was set to perform the aria Nessun Dorma - suddenly fell ill, so his good friend Aretha Franklin was asked to step in with only 2 days notice. The result is still amazing.

Wishing you all well. Keep the rubber side down. Kawasaki has a 400cc 4-cylinder ZX-4 out in the U.S. Badass. The states don't usually get cool mid-displacement bikes.
This song was written about a girl that was kidnapped and later found dead. It's also a metaphor for an obsessive relationship according to a co-author. Enjoy. |

A few years later when lead singer Scott Weiland was in the throes of addiction. Still put on a good show, but his physical appearance was strange.
