Syd -- I used to play a LOT of Ry Cooder on the radio back in the mid/late 70s. If you haven't, you should check out the album LITTLE VILLAGE by the group of the same name that came out in 1992. It's Cooder, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner, and it SMOKES! Unfortunately, as with many things from Warner Bros. Records from the mid-'70s through the '90s, it was too hip for the room. Warner Bros. failed to promote it, and it disappeared. Bummer.
I saw Little Village in Denver, before the egos exploded. Good album, better show, and helped produce John Hiatt's Perfectly Good Guitar.

I lived in NYC for a bit and dated a girl in the 90's that lived next door to Tim (Spit Stix) Fear's drummer. He was super cool and as it was preinternet he had a VHS of that SNL performance which was unobtainium at the time. Was a gas to watch with him and hear all the stories that went along with it.

Skids, love that obscure song. I'll hit you with another one. Jonathan Demme took a cab ride in NYC and there was a song playing. He asked the driver about it. She said that it was her song. He got her number and all that. That song ended up in an iconic scene.

Skids -- first off, THANKS! Truly great stuff. Jazz, though? Hmm...I'll need to think about that for a sec. These guys -- by their own admission -- are fashioned after Motown's FUNK BROTHERS.

That said, The Fearless Flyers SMOKE like there's no tomorrow! They give new meaning to the term "tight." And that drummer...OMFG! Stripped down kit and plays his ass slap off! And the bassist ain't no slouch, either. I wish I had been a third that good when I was playing!

Okay...now, given what you posted, I'm posting a track by The Aristocrats from their first album. I s'pose we'll classify it as jazz, too, since I first heard this track a few years ago on someone's jazz playlist on Spotify. For a trio, they, too, SMOKE! They're currently on tour, playing, I believe, in San Diego in September.

Enjoy!

Victor

BTW -- give 'em 2:00 of noodlin' intro before the chainsaw kicks in!

skids -- I edited your post a bit to get to what I wanted to say: First off, I'd rather be you than that band director any day of the week. You -- at the very least -- ENJOY music!

So, see what I told you? You are -- in MY world -- a musician, 'cause you gets it in yer soul.

And for that, good on you!

Very True, but just for the record, my high school band director was an asshole.

First off, skids, NEVER listen to anyone who tells you "...they're just garbage..." and "...just throw them away." Ridiculous!

A quick search tells me that, sure, ebay is one outlet. But also check audiokarma.org or reelhifi.com or Elusive Disc or RXREELS.com to find out what's selling and for how much. You could also try DISCOGS under "cassettes" to see if anyone has been sneaking reel-to-reel tapes in that category.

Or, nose around on ebay or fb marketplace for a used reel-to-reel machine. You might find an affordable one -- perhaps from someone who spoke to your misguided family member and took them seriously! But I can't help you with those JBLs...last time I saw a pair of those, they were hanging over my head in a free-form FM rock station control room I worked at back in the mid-70s!

Hard to argue with The Dead long about '72. The LP side of their live EUROPE '72 with SUGAR MAGNOLIA/MR. CHARLIE/TENNESSEE JED is, to this day, perhaps my favorite album side ever!

When Todd Rundgren was a kid, he absorbed the Gilbert & Sullivan catalog...and he wound up recording this selection on his 5th solo album, TODD.

?si=XYaS9Vx3hO4Trq-3

He also recorded "Never Never Land" from PETER PAN on his 4th solo album, A WIZARD, A TRUE STAR.

did not realy like the ''Never Never Land'' sorry its kinda discombobulating for me ... sadly

good and original post thanks
