Have a gear oil leak… like a lot. Like probably all of it in 24 hours if I didn't see it.

None of the options are good. Back on page 4 108 saw some burrs and nibs on the case edges that I dressed and filed. Maybe I didn't do a good enough job? Maybe I folded the gasket accidentally when closing? Worst option would be some kind of case porosity. But, this will be the 3rd build in a row where I pull a set of cases back out to address a problem. Gah. 😩

One previously un-mentioned suspect...the gear shift arm.

All you can do is clean it up good, dust it all with talcum powder, add more oil and wait. As fast as it's coming out, it'll reveal itself pretty quickly.

Really poor mating surfaces forward of the drain plug. This is the where we are getting leakage.

That's a real pisser. I don't know how I would've dealt with that. I know one hand would definitely be clenching the deathblade. Hope you sort your leak soon. Oh, happy 4th to you Sir!

I spent a fair bit of time checking fits of the cases and clutch cover with a bright LED in the block while bolted up and torqued to spec. This actually helped me run down the various potential issues.

Though my block is a well-worn example that did TDY in SEA, and yours is NOS and fresh as the new-fallen snow.

If I had minty-fresh cases, I probably wouldn't have worried about checking the assembly for potential leak spots.

+1 to the rec on premium gasket + a sealant (non RTV category)

motoseal, threebond, Yama/honda bond. or you could set it to kill and get you some "right stuff"...

Honestly although we all use sealant on crankcases, there was a small hope (and rightly so…) that your new cases wouldn't need it.

What a buzz kill…

I usually use the Athena gasket which seems to work well, used the sip gasket too… but just conscious that it's a little thick (moves the Xmas tree away from the clutch… not had any issues, but people do mention the thinner the better…)

No, no… not OT at all. That is what this thread is for!

I think on page 4 or 5 we talked about this and the only top hats needed are on the choke and front brake cable. You do not need the top hat on the clutch cable.

Thanks! It gives me some hope. It is my first time work with Primavera handlebar and here you can see that gear tube have cut Holes for lever screw also was absolutely worn so I took tube to my welder to fix it. Today I received it back and noticed that cable with cap won't fit right. Was very upset as so much work was done.
I clearly remember that on my 50 Special cable outer fits perfect with that end cap. Same on my P. But on P with non-indicator gear tube that end cap is not needed.
I tried to mount cable outer without end cap and it was seems ok.
And I just wanted to make sure before putting everything together finally.

Was that a Piaggio gasket?? Cause they seem to be stretched, shorter or cut wrong lately. I had three of those that were crap and binned them. That's why I now use SIP gaskets. Except on PXs where the original green ones are high quality…

That's what happened on my friend's smallie. I had to use a stock gasket cause I run out of SIP ones and hello air leak…

It was a MecEur kit. I offered him a Piaggio kit I'd gotten from the UK about eight years ago, but it wasn't taken.

Hmm, now you have me wondering. I bought the Piaggio smallie kit because their P/PX200 kit was so good. I guess I could open it and find out.

Guess Germany is getting more money soon, I was going to get a few LML 4T smallblock kits anyway.

MecEur stuff are crap. Piaggio smallframe gaskets are still old type, thin paper. They only did high quality aramide gaskets on P/PX series…

I'm gonna blame the owner operator here and not the gasket that was so graciously provided by our good friend in Arizona. I had to open and close the cases just a little bit when I buttoned this thing up. I suspect it was during that time that the gasket stuck to one side and folded in as I re-closed the cases, AnyWho… We will reassemble while keeping an eye on hurricane Beryl whose landfall is now imminent in the next 24 hours . #boo

It looks like it's right on top of you now. I hope it comes out better for you after you had that tree that previously fell on your house to deal with before.
