Another long build for this winter. And next spring. And summer. And easily even autumn... Facepalm emoticon

This is 1993 Vespa PX 200 E GS for Austrian market.

My friend bought it in May 2022. It was running but obviously have lot of problems.
He stripped it down, took chassis to sandblast and ended here. Seems he realised that it is too much hard work for him despite he always dreamed about PX.

After near 1.5 pass he believed in God and began attending church and then sold PX to my other friend. So PX went into my garage and works starts.

Let's see some photos.

Interesting that chrome handlebar cover is original part. Curious is it factory item or some custom tuning?

Besides the fact that the chassis has a lot of dents and bumps, there are also very bad moments.

Destroyed rear shock top mount:

And little story before next photo batch.

The previous PX owner(not my friend) was a sailor. A friend of mine (who bought the PX first) was a cook on a naval ship.
When PX was teared apart it was stored in the basement of the garage. And in one day there was so heavy rain that basement was flooded. And PX engine too.

I warned that it was necessary to disassemble the engine urgently, but my friend did not care about it.
Engine was disassembled only after 9 month or so.

Why did I mention sailors? Where is the connection? The engine was full of water. It seems that PX was also attracted to water

It is very little part of water what came out of cases when I start to split it.

Looks like a great project. Body work is not so bad. The kick shaft fix is actually a decent and effective repair.

Any loose stuff should be removed and all gasket and sealing surfaces should be clean. The pitting really doesn't matter as long as there isn't any residue in there. CLR and some small wire brushes may help loosen stuff up. How is the intake pad ?

Thanks!
What is CLR?

I'm really don't remember how is intake pad because I stripped down this engine few month ago and at that moment it was the only what I need to do.
Now intake case half is in the weld shop along with the chassis.
Nothing critical I think. Similar rust as on flywheel half.

I'm sorry... it is a product here that removes calcium, lime, and rust deposits. Not real strong but helps. I have also used some McGuire's ( brand) aluminum wheel cleaner. I think it has mild phosphoric acid in it.

Congrats on your new journey!! I once did a similar frame with a busted shock mount. Had to cut the frame from the top to work inside. New 3mm plate for the base (original is a 2 sheet welded sandwich) and reinforcements around it. For the main lock you can buy the lock body (OEM code: 259420). SC sells only the body, SIP has a complete LML kit...

Then I decided to change springs in primary drive.
Done it few times before and then it was near 1.5 hour job. But not this time. It took near 3 hours. The biggest problem was old rivets stucked in the cog.

I think my least favourite task is to drill out those primary rivets and to re-rivet the drive. And swapping out the bearing, which the only way is to hammer it out with the shaft…

Overhauling that part is generally no fun.

It's not that hard, but yeah, it's boring and tedious for some reason.

Just realized looking at the hardware pics that I can ID every part. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Yeah, agree, I wouldn't say it's hard, but maybe the fact it feels like it's never ending rivet after rivet and then you put back in the rivets to replicate what you just had.

Nice tidy work there. Bike looks like it's had a hard life. Glad it's in good hands.

That kickstart repair was pretty good. Years ago when I was a broke student, I tried to shim a stripped kickstart lever with bits of a beer can. Had to save my pennies for a new one.

There will be a new rails kit.
From my experience, I decided that it would be better that way.
When I bought new rails kit(Piaggio one - pricey and sht quality) for my P any hole wasn't corresponded.

Strange. Never had issues with the original rails, especially the rubber and end caps were far superior to the ones from F.A.
