This looks suspiciously familiar. Is this engine a licensed Piaggio clone?

interesting.

the 26Nm is the same as the HPE yet the picture looks like a pre-HPE which is 22Nm.

Yes, it's the Piaggio 300cc engine. Companies will often give or sell the Chinese the tooling for their old engines. It's a cheap way to get spare parts for old, discontinued engines. Honda did that with the Helix. Morini did it with the early 400 Burgman engine. The 200 is likely the Aprilia engine that Piaggio sent to China when they moved the Scarabeo production there.

Can I assume that this is also the same motor used in the current Lambretta 300?

This little engine seems to really 'get around', doesn't it?...which I don't mean in a necessarily bad way, but more of a positive testimonial to the Piaggio original 278cc engine perhaps?

I was under the impression the new Lambretta is made by SYM, and haven't seen one, so I can't say for sure. If it looks like the Piaggio engine, it is the Piaggio engine though.

I see that and I don't want: "smooth but spirited ride"

I want: terrifying ride with face melting acceleration

which is what the originals offered, and why they were cool.

car equivalent to this is a V6 automatic mustang. I want big block powered Monza.

the specs for the lambretta say 275cc not 278cc and it's power specs say more hp and less nm than an hpe. not a match.

I actually googled it, and it would appear that that is indeed the Piaggio engine in the "Lambretta". Buying a Chinese "Lambretta" with a Piaggio engine, is likely more convenient for most Americans than taking a trip to Italy for the express purpose of pissing on Ferdinando Innocenti's grave.

Look for the bore and stroke. AFAIK, Piaggio is the only company that does the finned oil pan on the left side. The power specs are likely imaginary.

ya probably correct (although it's unusual for marketing of specs to round down the cc)

Just posting this to say thank you to SteelBytes. In Uni and speccing GTS 300HPE and was looking for KMH Vs RPM. Your graph you made a couple years ago is awesome and exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for making the time to do that and for showing your enthuasism and love for your bike over the years. It definitely helped me a lot at the bare minimum

Italjet are designed and built at Bologna, which is also the home of both Ducati and Malossi.

It's all Piaggio mechanicals I believe, but with a unique steering / front suspension system, which apparently prevents diving under braking - meaning you can be more aggressive into braking zones.

I keep going back and forth with what I think of them. To be, they seem overkill visually for a scooter - but other days I think they look amazing.

I really like the hand guard indicator/side-light design.

If such a product existed for my GTS I'd love the added visibility. Perhaps Rizoma can get right on that for me.

Engine for the 125/200 looks suspiciously similar to the Rotax used in the Scarabeo 125/200 Light. Specs are eerily similar too.

It shares the JC1P63ML-4 engine with this fine piece of machinery that looks remarkably like an Aprilia Scarabeo:

Wait a couple of weeks and Dong Feng will dump the eerily similar Dongyi Jinlang Qipai Super Turbo Racer Dragstar 200 off in a crate in your driveway, for a whole lot less.

god, and that rotax motor sucks so bad. everything about it is miserable. besides the transmission being noisy as hell, all the trans components *look* like Piaggio off the shelf stuff but aren't, so you're stuck ordering from like three places to get the right stuff and then *hoping* it's right when it gets there-- knowing that the sellers are just as confused about the parts as you are.

the carb isn't used on anything else and the intake system only works well with *that* carb. the intake manifold is pure unobtainium, so good luck when that cracks.

anything mechanical for the motors is a billion dollars and always out of stock, back ordered or NLA.

I'm with ya Greasy. My 2000 180 2T kitted to 172 scares the snot out of me but it sure is fun passing cars at 85 mph on I-95! I've seen shocked faces more than once. Put it up at a local dyno day and the operator kept shaking his head and asked what was really in it. 23.5 hp 19.9 ft/lbs and I weigh a buck and a half.
