Hello, I just joined this group. I have a 2009 s150 that I got for cheap and I am going to fix it up. First thing I started working on is the throttle was all full of dirt and would stick. So I took it all apart and got the bars all cleaned up. Now the return works great until I tighten the 2 screws that hold the collar on there. Trying to see what I might be doing wrong.

No one has ever done this before? Anyone that can at least point me in the direction of some resources?

No one has answered you, so I'll take a stab at it.

First of all, welcome to the forum. You've asked for resources. IMO this is the most comprehensive site for resources you're ever going to find. So, you're at the right place.

I think if you could clarify your problem (as you describe it) it might be easier to understand.

Could you post a pic of the area of your problem? You mean throttle at the handle bars? And what clamp? Why was it full of dirt? Was it dropped in dirt? Any other obvious damage in that area?

Have you searched the archives for answers?

Gibbstown? I'm down here between Bridgeton and Vineland. Not far at all. Get her fixed up and maybe we can ride sometime. South Jersey has some great roads, especially in Cumberland County near Greenwich and the bay.

Thanks for the reply. I made a short video showing the problem. The grip was torn on the end so I guess dirt just accumulated in there. I just bought the bike at auction.

Hey! That was awesome! Now we can see what you were talking about.

Here's my answer (remedy): Don't tighten those screws!<G>

I found a parts manual in the wiki.

https://manuals.wotmeworry.org.uk/Vespa/LX150/LX150Parts.pdf

On page 17 is an exploded view of the assembly. I wonder if that washer ( or shim) is missing?

Man that document is hard to read. Idk why the part numbers are all over the place lol. But I did find a link to that washer, I'm gonna take the throttle back apart and see. But that diagram also doesn't show some of the other throttle parts, so it might not be the same as mine.

Yes it is hard to read. There are other documents/manuals available in the wiki. That's the 1st one I went to. I'm sure you can find a better, more complete drawing. You might try Scooterwest and see what they have to offer.

The other thing that dawned on me is that the bike may have fallen onto that grip and forced it into the center. Try easing the grip off a bit by twisting and pulling away from the bike. Just a fraction of an inch might loosen things up to where you can tighten the screws and it works correctly.

You're getting there!

Update. I took the throttle back off again. I had the washer installed before the throttle. I removed it and it works great without it, but it doesn't fit on the outside. I'm not sure what I am missing. Maybe some more time I'll figure it out. I just wish the parts diagram was more detailed.

I think you're there. That diagram shows the washer or shim between the grip and the throttle cable assembly. I notice from your pic (i think) that there's no collar on the inside of your grip, but one IS shown on the grip in the diagram. Doesn't that washer act as a shim between the grip collar and the throttle cable assembly?

I can't find a better drawing. I'm sure there's one out there somewhere.

But if it's working, mission accomplished!
