I honestly dont get what all the fuss is about the SS90; yeah it was unique in its day and it had a bit of grunt behind it but its like the emperors new clothes, its value overinflated because its like, yeah, they were rare or something so it must be worth X amount of stupid money with many zeroes after it. The person who paid that for it got more money than sense, id rather have a Rally any day.

To get that high, at least one other person, and probably more, also thought it was worth stupid money.

Crazy money? Sure. But there's something irresistible about that narrow legshield.

Couldn't care less about the rarity, but it's a great design for a vintage scooter, the handlebars, leg shield shape, the seat, the tank.

It's pretty cool in my eyes.

Great little details.

Yeah don't get me wrong, it's certainly cool but people fawn over them as if they are expected to fawn over them . It's a great looking scoot but then again I think the ET3 primavera is a great scoot with good performance a about 1.5 mph slower standard . My point is nobody of sane mind unless more money than sense would shell out that sort of money . Christ you could get a TV175 vastly superior and have a lot of change or a GS 160! The prices for the SS are overinflated and it's cause everybody just goes oh well it's an SS90 so it's worth 30k ; it isn't imo.

$30K only seems like a lot until the first time you need that padded nut protector.

ROFL emoticon Good point, what ARE your nuts worth?

Nuts aside, as for value no way for me! That is crazy money, but who knows as an investment - this may be one of the best SS90s on the planet and there are many 'financially over endowed' collectors in Asia and Europe who wouldn't balk. But seems way beyond reason for those of us who just love these to wrench & ride .

I wonder how that $20,000 50 Special did that had only THREE miles on it? Facepalm emoticon https://www.scootnet2.net/1543 I don't want it after having the same bike for a while, even same color but more miles(like 7,XXX) mainly bc they have a damned THREE speed! Livid emoticon And at least for over $40,000, this stunning 90 has a proper four speed. Clap emoticon

They are definitely a different breed than other Vespas. But all those who say it's slow and rarity does not equal value: what about a 98? didn't Rolf's sell for $60K? (and I don't think that one eve had gas near it)

Three miles on the odo but, it looks like, a lot of butts on the seat.

from a standpoint of "unmolested" and totally OG I can see an argument on the coin. but that's not for me.

I think there are some survivor bikes out there kicking around that would be just as desirable (again, to me) than this one at a much lower price point.

is it cool? sure. is it worth that? maybe to somebody.

but just looking at the pics, if you tried to go thru this and preserve it and make a functional, riding, enjoyable bike? you'd be soooo far into it. I mean just like filling five gallon buckets with hundred dollar bills and lighting them a blaze-- multiple times levels of spending.

remember, there's an ass for every seat. and out there exists somebody that wants this solely for the reason to say that they have it and nobody else does.

also, why is there grass all over the fan shroud and on the RH side of the bike? did they tip it over when taking pics?

The selling price (if true) at £33,350 is equivalent to US$41,639 at the current exchange rate I found (Oanda).

There are cats that will pay US$10m for a worn NBA finals jersey, so US$40 grand is like sofa change to dudes like that.

That has to be somewhere near a record for a vintage Vespa.

very early bikes, 98's, 1st line handlebars even some Douglas rod models have tipped the scale in the 60K range-- and those are the ones we know about.

that certainly puts it up there in the upper percentile though.

It's semi-amusing that the 90ss and the '66 Smallstate are very nearly the same bike. Smallstate is a lot cheaper.
