Hello!

About 4 years ago I found myself with a 1964 Vespa by winning a raffle. I had no intentions of keeping it until I drove it, and now I'm hooked. I have always wanted to restore it to shiny and new "looking" and stripped it down this week. The engine doesn't seem to be the original and I need help identifying it so that I can maintenance it properly. Any help would be appreciated!

The engine has a serial number that's says E16 *943364*
Engine serial number says E16 *943364*

LML is a more modern reproduction Indian engine. I believe the LML "Vespa" is the similar to the American "Genuine Stella". Hopefully someone else can confirm this though.

the fan cover *could* have been changed, but the steel kick lever tags it as an LML.

what's the carb lid, carb and carb box look like?

LML make a *bunch* of different flavors of 125/150, so a few pics should tell the tale.

First off, if you'd like to sell that fan shroud with the LML "warning" on it, send me a PM.

That being said, it's probably going to be compatible parts-wise with the Stella, which is mostly compatible with the later P series motors.

If you're looking for just a straight rebuild, Scooter Mercato have rebuild kits which includes all the soft and hard parts you'll need.

If you want to tune it out, you can get crazy powerful builds because of the native reed. Either way, I'm happy to advise.

There are differences between those LML "crate engines" and the engines that came in Genuine Stellas. Main things are the crate engines don't have autolube or electric start. If the crate engine is a 150, the guts are probably the same, but definitely proceed with caution.

Looks to be an early 2000's LML factory assembled engine, as sold both retail and wholesale by Scooterworks back in the day. This particular one is premix and non-electric start. if you're extremely lucky, it's one of the upreared ones they sold with p200 primaries for use in 8" scooters.
