Modern Vespa

Hi,
I've bought 4 'spots' for the front of my scoot and am going to get a quote from my local Vespa garage to wire them up.
They've already told me that they don't like doing it as it can play havoc with the electrics.
Is this correct?
I've seen Vespas all over the place with extra spots on that work.

They are very bright!

I bought them from India and I'm not too sure. Our local Vespa garage hasn't seen the lights yet, but said it's hard to wire them up on the newer Vespas.

I want them on a separate switch and thought for an auto electrician it should be straight forward.

Was at the local Vespa dealer today. The worry is breaking into the factory wiring loom - not impossible but they have seen many modern bikes/scooters where people have randomly cut into the loom for things like radar detectors etc. with sometimes unfortunate results. However, that doesn't mean they think it can't be done, they need to put their mind to not causing problems, the rule of Unintended Consequences can kick in when you least expect it. Their wiring man has Covid this week.

Replacing the headlight bulb with an LED in New Zealand is a problem, they don't comply with our local lighting regulations.

I agree with your shop about splicing into the wiring. I have always wired accessories directly to the battery with an inline fuse, which should be easy to do on a vespa. That way any issues are easy to fix especially on the road.

the main concern with hacking the harness is choosing the right circuit. ie if your device causes a short then what fuse can you accept blowing. 1. study the wiring diagram. 2. try test removing you selected fuse and see if the bike would be able to get home if you blew that. (don't assume just replacing fuse while on the road as you could do more damage). I've hacked mine in 3 places
