Show us your Christmas tree... πŸŽ„

I'm really curious how you decorate for Christmas.

I'll post photos of our Christmas tree as soon as it's up and decorated.

Merry Christmas!

Can you call a cut tree "live"? Anyway, it's a 7' Fraser.

We don't normally have a Christmas tree. This year our granddaughter is coming for Christmas so we thought we'd better have a tree. This one was $5 at the liquidator's store. The two-year-old decorated it! The hummingbird is a sticker on the window.

Is this your last year's tree? Or is it usual that presents are already underneath it before Christmas?

Quite "usual"!
BTW: where in Germany?
Parents are American - but my brother and I were born in Augsburg, late 40's - father was with the occupational forces.

It would be unthinkable in Germany for presents to lie under the Christmas tree for days: Presents are placed under the tree on Christmas Eve by "Santa Claus" (in some regions of Germany alternatively also by the "Christkind"), then a small bell rings and only then everyone gather around the tree.

The half an hour or whole hour that we children had to wait in our rooms until Santa Claus/Christkind came, brought the presents and until the bell finally rang was simply the greatest thing for us children. Some families also combine this with a visit to church and the presents are miraculously just under the tree when they return...

We give presents on Christmas Eve (December 24), not on the morning of December 25 as is usual for you.

When I have holidays, I want to sleep and not watch the impatient children opening presents at 5am...πŸ™ˆπŸ˜΄πŸ₯±

I live near Wiesbaden, not far from Frankfurt.

My mother was German. She came from Ottmanshoffen (near Leutkirch im AllgΓ€u). She came to the USA at age 16 by herself. I always loved the tradition of opening gifts on Christmas Eve.

they are height/weight appropriate!

it's a tiny tree, and it's just for them. all the ornaments are soft felt so they can knock it down with no worries.

this is my other tree:

still no breakable, or easily breakable ornaments. but it's secured with command strips and everything is wired in so they can't pull the pieces off.

As long as we believed in Santa, it's what we did. It gradually grew into "these presents are from....." to add to the tree early.

Not sure how our tradition got started... our community was German immigrant (the farm is still on the fringe of a rural community that I'd wager still has largely Pomeranian (German) roots). I'm often curious what traditions, and language idiosyncrasies are lingering from the Old Country.

Anyway, we'd go to church on Christmas Eve, dad would get the old DeSoto warmed up, we'd bundle in, but my mom, always highly organized suddenly would turn into a ditz and announce that she forgot to do something and ran into the house while we waited. Presents were there when we returned. Wha? emoticon I never caught on.

I did some work in Spielbank Wiesbaden some years ago. Awesome building, reminds me of Casino Royale, only a class above.
Iceland has the same Christmas Eve tradition of opening the presents but the presents are put under the tree when they arrive. Talk about torturing children.

When I grew up, the whole family would gather at our house for Xmas eve and we would go over to my Uncle's house for Xmas day (Across the street). My Mom's Mom and Dad (Grandparents) were one block away.

We would open presents Xmas eve (German family tradition). Then Xmas Day morning a few more presents were under the tree delivered from Santa. My folks had to hide the presents at the neighbors house because my big brother would literally tare the house apart searching for them. I seemed to be okay, but my brother was insanely anxious.

Traditions are fond memories. Now, the family and cousins are all over the country. Different world.

The "tree" is an afterthought around here.

Same little one I bought myself when I bought my first property as a broke 23 year old twelve years ago. All the lights failed over the years so I had to unclip all of them and run new lights to keep my little Charley Brown Christmas Tree going... keeps me humble.

Merry Christmas all!
