Thanks! That's kind've the goal, but in a non-obvious way.

Meanwhile, I got a care package from BajaRob with a whole bunch of panel fasteners and one of them is very nearly EXACTLY what I was thinking of.

All the brake parts also came, but I'm not feeling up to heading out to the workshop tonight, so that'll all have to wait a few days.

Still, good progress, with more ready to happen as soon as I'm up for it.

I know! I love it.

Next up will be fun with welding to add a mounting tab without damaging the paint on the frame too much.

If it is going to be hidden by the door, could you not rivet it in place rather that weld? Would hate to see the paint catch fire on that cool scoot you worked so hard on and lose your good no-explosion status.

Perhaps. I'll have to explore my options. If I can plug weld the tab in place, then I might be able to save the visible paint. I mostly need to just figure out what the moumting tab is going to look like, then go from there.

The big issue is that there'sjust not a lot of metal to work with there, period.

This style doesn't have to have a tab welded to anything

whodats … the challenge is there's only about 1/2" of metal available to hold the receptacle to the frame.

Down and dirty!

Alternately:
Remove one of the rubber buffers.
Drill corresponding small hole in door.
Zip tie.
Done.

I did think that as I posted it, i thought of it as a 'It'll work for now' kind of thing I also thought that velcro probably catches fire when it gets hot and melts so maybe it should be Chandlers go-to product not such a good suggestion

Wow...it's been a quick four months since I updated this thread. How did that happen? Oh, right...Lammy happened...One Lammy == Five Vespa's worth of maintenance... Razz emoticon

After breaking the Lammy and fixing the Stella this morning, I turned my attention to the Boo-Badge for the first time in, apparently, a long time.

The last time I rode it a week or two ago, whenever I hit WOT, it would stumble and completely lose power. If I let off the throttle it would recover, but something was definitely not right.

So hearing protectors on, I fired it up on the stand and it cranked first kick. I was wondering if the CDI (Vape) was failing, but decided it seemed jet-y, so pulled the main to clean it and realized I had a 195 main installed.

My best recollection is that I'd decided to re-check the main by walking it down, and apparently never finished the job. Anyways, I walked it down to a 185, a 175, and eventually a 170, at which point it seems like it's in a pretty happy place now.

Took it out and rode it to make sure and found the clutch was slipping, so got to sort that out, too.

Then the power to my CHT died, so I got to track that down. Turned out to be the + wire inside the connector, but what a pain to track down. And while I had the headlight out, the second tab on the recently-replaced reflector decided to break off. "For a Grade A Repair" my ass.

So it's currently taped in to the headset until I can work out a solution that doesn't mind lighting money on fire for another reflector which will also break its tabs sooner than later. I'm seriously contemplating just drilling and tapping the headset on each side to let me hold the reflector in place with bolts, like a Sprint. I figure I'm way past the "It's only original once" stage at this point. Razz emoticon

This afternoon will be a shakedown ride for the work thus far, and I need to fix the mirror mount, which snapped off when I landed a wheelie a while back. Riding long distances with no mirror kind've sucks, especially when you're trying to make sure

This is all important because this weekend is a club weekend, riding up to Kentucky for riding and general shenanigans at one of our member's farm. I was planning to take the Lammy since that's kind've what it's made for (and what I bought/built it for), but if a new flywheel nut doesn't arrive in time, it'll be a Vespa instead.

Of course, it may not be the Boo-Badge. I might do something sane and rational like take the Sprint200 or even the VBB, but Friday is still a long ways off...

I just had it on the highway to run a couple errands over lunch and it's definitely getting the job done.

I'd forgotten how LOUD this thing is, especially ripping along solidly in the power band. It also kept wanting to gain speed if I wasn't paying attention. I found myself doing 75 when I meant to be doing about 60, and the throttle is just super-twitchy at those speeds. Kind've exhausting, if I'm being honest with myself. I'm not sure if I want to sign up for extending riding like that at the moment.

So the Vespa du Week-end will probably wind up being either the Sprint200 or the VBB. Still torn on that. Guess I'll have to go ride them around this week so I can decide.
