Are you still shooting with a pancake compressor?
Doesn't look like surface contamination from here.

And a worn out, probably dirty inside gun with a pretty much broken regulator.

New decent-quality gun and regulator arrive tomorrow, along with a new gallon of gun cleaner.

I took the night off tonight after an 11 hour day at work. Plus, my shoulders are killing me.

It'll still be there when I get back.

I will say, though, that the BooBerry color is really growing on me. It reminds me a little bit of a Royal Blue Delta 88 Oldsmobile I had in high school. I don't think I can fit 11 friends on a scooter with me, though.

Definitely looks better in the shade.

Wonder what's with that?

Either stock et3 blue or something else more classic like a deep orange or ivory white (which might be a similar colour to before! But I think would look killer).

Bit of a waste painting it the same colour as the orange scoot. Not that it looks bad.

The curves of the smallie lends itself to classic colours I think.

Mine had the blue cloth, which wasn't bad because in Texas, the interior would get up to 150F+ if parked in the sun. We used to load that thing up with so many kids it wasn't even funny. Good times, for sure.

I like the color. Maybe something about blue. The navy blue on my 200 changes a lot depending on the light. It's actually Subaru geyser blue which was a 95+% match to the original color.

I'm betting the new gun and regulator will solve your issues. Only takes a little crud to mess up a gun. Are you using the same gun for paint and primer?

One idea I borrowed from YouTube was a turntable for painting mudguards, etc. Really helps with the limited space I have. It's just a piece of plywood bolted to an old stool. I used different sized wooden blocks to prop up pieces.

I was originally wanting to do Subaru Cool Gray Khaki, which is neither gray nor khaki, but whatev's.

But none of the color codes I could find for it matched what actually came up on the paint shop's computer, so I picked BooBerry on a bit of a whim.

No, I used a 1.8 for the primer, then a 1.4 for the paint. The guns are a few years old and were used for my boat, which was a LOT, then the GL and VBB. They were pretty cheap-o Amazon guns, too, so no real loss there. The regulator has never worked worth a damn, I just never did anything about it until now.

I like that idea. Even a lazy susan on my card table would be a solid improvement. *pulls up Amazon...*

I'd really like to work out a better method for painting the engine door. Maybe a little frame made of steel rod that I could suspend it in using picture wire. Anchor it with the two frame attachment points and the clasp opening.

The headset is stuck onto the fork, so it's in good shape. The fork will get blacked out along with the top of the gas tank. Still haven't made the jump to tear down the front disc enough to paint. It may just roll silver with a black anti-dive.[/img]
Plan A was to turn the Smallstate into a Subaru, but then I decided to just copy the paint color.

Ouch. That's a painful lesson right there. Yeah, with that waterborn degreaser you gotta wait something like 45 minutes @ 70 degrees in order to be sure that it's completely dry. And 45 minutes is a LONG time to wait when you're ready and raring to paint!

I know how much you like to paint so you can print your image on waterslide decal paper using a laser ink jet printer. After you transfer and it dries you shoot clear over it. Looks cool with a little airbrush shading around the image before clear. You've got mad skills, easy for you to pull off!

I doubt I would clearcoat it unless I decided I REALLY liked it, but the decal could definitely happen.

No you just need to clearcoat your decal. It gets protected under the clear unlike a sticker. Easy to tape off around, shoot the clear then color sand and buff. Boom, done! Easier than you think. I'll try to send you a link. If I was close I'd do it for you! That emblem you came up with is bitchin!! A sticker decal definitely won't last as long. I wouldn't suggest this if I didn't think you were totally capable. 😉

Hah! Forums are how communities of interest found each other and interacted back before it was mostly sucked up into social media. I could do an entire conference talk on this topic (maybe I even have Razz emoticon ), but that's not why we're here.

Yesterday I took the day off in the workshop. All I did was bring my Summit Racing box in from the front porch and buy some wet-dry sandpaper. It's hard to get too motivated to go do a bunch of wet-sanding some days.

I'm looking forward to trying out the new paint guns, though, so that'll get me sanding again in the next day or two.

Spent some time tonight doing all the prep sanding so I'll just need to do surface prep and can paint tomorrow.

And my SIP box arrived early, so I have all the parts I think I need (yeah, right!) to get the reassembly going, too.

Drop dead finish date is being ready for WKRP in April. I think I should hit that pretty easy since the motor is just waiting to go back in the bike.

Paint is on and looking pretty good. For me, anyway. Nothing worse than what I did to the VBB, and it all turned out just fine.

There will absolutely be some wet sanding, to no one's surprise, I'm sure. Overall, though, the new gun makes the old gun look like Jackson Pollock splashing paint on a canvas.

Tomorrow I'll probably shoot the fork and a few other bits that are going to be black, plus maybe sand down and shoot a third coat over the worst of it, see if I can get better results from that.

Then, I can take down the paint booth and get on with turning it from parts scattered all over the workshop back into a scooter.
The legshield is the worst part, but at least it's a relatively easy area to work.

and hit it with a couple more coats. Cut and buff and it will look fantastic.
