I haven't rode in rain like that on my ride up since 1991. Hate doing that but wasn't going to miss meeting you guys and seeing your scoots. CM1, CM2 ( both of you together, CM to the second power?), SoCalGuy, sdjohn, FNG, can't wait to ride with you next year! Bummer about the truck Ray. I'm betting I'll see you ripping around LA before next March. Hope more of NSM can make it next time. I saw a couple GS 160s but not a single GS 150. The cloud of blue smoke when everyone took off was classic!

chandlerman wrote: I'm actually a ghost, but I manifest pretty well. I 100% agree. Putting real faces and names to usernames was hands-down the best part of the trip. It was awesome getting to meet BajaRob (who rode all the way up to SLO to bring me the Justin Case), even though I've never actually forgotten a cotter pin (As we all know, I'm much more innovative than that when it comes to scooters and destruction). Getting to see FNG, SDJohn, CM2, SoCal, as well as other old friends, plus all the other new friends I made along the way is always just excellent. I got to do some serious wrenching on SoCal's P200, help CM2 re-assemble The Unicorn, help multiple other riders with everything from sorting a clutch to diagnosing electrical and carb issues to rescuing another rider who'd run out of gas. SoCal's P200 was a champ. I had it WOT three times on the 101 for 15, 15, and 20 miles and was loving every minute. One thing I loved was how unique all the bikes were. While there were some of the nicest resto's I've seen, especially the Rally's for whatever reason, even with 150+ bikes, I don't think any two were the same. To all of you who could only be with us in spirit, know you were missed and start planning earlier next year.

Back when Bradford was making those jackets up here in PDX, EVERYONE was wearing one. I have maybe only seen a couple in that color. It looks good. It's been a great jacket, love it. |

Looks like a great time had by all. Piling on the likes for SDJ's P200 - love that look! And the Unicorn rolling next to Socal's yellow Super - great stuff. I gotta get out there some day.

She let me borrow hers a couple years ago to do a 3500 mile road trip to buy a couple KTM dirtbikes. The long bed is awesomely stable even in high winds/ wet conditions. Short bed is a lil nicer around town - CVS parking lot - what not. |

Few moments of treachery that remind me that you need to either be in the front - or allow others to keep filling the gap in front of you and backing off to re-create. Some simple math: - Accordion affect is 2x with 2 strokes because they surge on acceleration - Brakes on many are .5X because they suck - Brakes on others are 1.5X because they are big ass discs with German tires Rider be ware. Guys up in SLO have great chi and put on a killer day. Route was spectacular - and clearly had been well planned. Few more pics:

ROM 2024 Wrap Up
Well fellas, this was one for the books. I think some unofficial awards are in order: I'm going to nominate sdjohn's P125 for a "People's Choice" Award. He turned a box of parts into not just a peppy scoot, but a legit stylish ride with creative and tasteful paint and theme stickers. That thing is great. Well done John! BajaRob gets an award for braving a wicked rainstorm from Ventura on his Harley on Saturday morning just to chat with the other NSM folks before the rally. Good man. As of you may have heard I was involved in a little low speed tangle up. Not pointing fingers at anybody, but let's just say there were a few participants this year that probably could have benefited from a little more riding experience and better situational awareness. But no worries, I'll heal up and the yellow beast is surprisingly ok. Thx Chandler and sdjohn for hanging back and helping out. All in all another epic ROM. Already looking forward to next year. Cheers all.

I did not have "extended WOT on the 101" on my bingo card for the weekend, but it was still a very cool little side adventure, nevertheless. I'm going to hope that third time's the charm and when we do this again next year, everyone has an equally good time. By which I mean that we all have a great time, not that we all crash/explode/catch fire/etc.

If y'all didn't get enough riding in at ROM, then come on up for the 28th annual Portland's Spring Scoot rally! It's the weekend of May 10th. Normally it's about a month sooner, but i think over the years everyone got tired of the obligatory long ride in the rain.

In "The hits just keep coming" news, I just tested positive for COVID.
I started feeling crappy yesterday, had to call in sick today, and when I took the test a little while ago, it was a bright red positive in five minutes. Anyways...if anyone who saw me over the weekend starts feeling cruddy, you should probably take a test. |
