They can be up to like 10cm in size, legs included.

AFAIK these critters never made it to the New World, probably because they're not annoying or prolific enough. Or Shakespeare mentioning them (re: Starlings).

Funny, AFAIK, for all the critters and weeds that found their way to the new world, we missed getting those guys. Maybe just not annoying or prolific enough to make the cut. Not being mentioned by Shakespeare always helps (re: Starlings)

I'll start looking in my helmet too. I once had a bumblebee fly into my helmet while riding. Very unpleasant results. Some things are unavoidable.

I haven't found a spider in one of my helmets yet, but I did find a cat in the cornbread dish last year.

Thinking about this, I'll have to correct my earlier statement of there not being dangerous spiders in Finland.

There is - in the Natural History Museum, of all the possible places...and not because of reasons you'd first think.

I wouldn't have thought a cat would want cornbread...

They are house spiders. Maybe they just did not like travelling by boat.

I like this:

"As I pass Finland's parliament building, less than 200m from the Museum of Natural History, I recall Muona's views on the matter. The Chilean recluse spiders could easily have made it that far, he had said. "I'm waiting for one to bite the prime minister."

Almost certain that some exotic spiders also make it to Belgium in shipments, but as far as I know not leading to any issues.

They're surprisingly 'experimental' when it comes to untended food, taking a bite of this or a bite of that, then walking off and leaving us with the results (read: mess).

As for spiders, they seem to love them, and never leave bits and parts laying around afterwards. Same with flies.

You could press your cat into service as a helmet inspector, thereby using his skills for good instead of evil.

A. You are probably Australian!
Can. Not. Resist. Any. Longer.
