My new crankshaft for the Malaguti finally got back in stock. I ordered it from Scooter Tuning in Canada. I opted for the free shipping thinking I'd get boned on the tariff. FedEx got it to LAX then sent it back to Memphis. The following day, it was back in Oxnard and I picked it up at a drop zone. It required a signature. So far no extra charges. Maybe in two weeks?

I have 6298.00 in my cart at sip scooter, delivery is California.
I will advise shipping and tariff fee in a few weeks. It's all tax deductible so Iam not bothered about the cost. |

Not scooter related but I just got a Jazzmaster style bridge from the UK and the tariff was added into the total cost of the piece. Got here in 3 days. Not sure if Uncle Sam is gonna show up at a later date for more monies though.

chandlerman wrote: Just paid $80 in tariffs on a $140 Scooter-Center order. They way I figure it that comes out to about $308 American bucks. For some reason they shipped on UPS this time rather than their usual DHL. Not sure why. Today I got an Email from UPS saying I have $51.00 "Import Fees" due and I can pay it online. (I roughly calculated that to be about 17%.) If I wait to pay the fees at time of delivery they add another $12 to it. scootermercato wrote: Well under the new agreement with the European Union this code is a minimum 15%. Then you are supposed to supply the % of steel this part contains that was produced outside of the USA. 0% steel then 15% tariff. 100% steel then 50% tariff. Its a sliding scale Well UPS just makes the custom entry saying everything is 100% steel, doesn't ask and charges you 50% plus another 2.5%. I could live with the 15% since if I made the purchase here I would be paying 8.25% tax anyway, so I guess I can accept the 17%. I've got to feed my reading habit and doing it in Italian keeps the language serviceable. |

Down in southwestern Ontario, used to be that *we* had the pain-in-the-ass tariffs. You'd order your stuff to a U.S. forwarder in Michigan, take the Algonac ferry to pick it up, and then take your chances with Canada Customs on the way back. My dad bought all kinds of scooter gear that way. Guess things might be going in the other direction now!

With respect to the 50% tariffs being applied on steel and aluminum derivative products, you have to pay not only for the cost of the metal but also any conversion costs (e.g., machining, painting, packaging) done to make the part ready for sale. What's confused people is that they assumed they would only have to pay the 232 tariff on the base metal cost, but that's incorrect.

The $51.00 was simply "Brokerage Charges". Something smells like UPS is taking advantage of the tariff confusion here. I have never had to pay any Brokerage charges in the past. But the books were always shipped on DHL before. |

I had a small shipment from the UK ~$100 delivered by fedex. showed up with no fees...
But a week later I got a dodgy looking text from fedex saying I owed $13 in tariffs and processing fees. went to the official fedex site with the tracking number and sure enough it shows up but they will not let me see the actual documents. ("log in with email or mobile number", enter the mobile number and get a "that is not a valid email address") |

Just paid my tax. Went down to 116.10 if you pay ahead of time apparently.
The actual tariff amount was $90, then broker fees or some such nonsense. |

Meanwhile, FedEx has been sitting on it in Munich since then. Meh.

I've quit using UPS because of their tariff price gouging and general fuckery. It's FedEx for me, even if they tend to take two weeks to get 3-5 day shipping to me.
