hello guys. i recently acquired a 1991 px200 engine. i originally ordered a vespower mk ii ignition and a sip performance 2.0 exhaust (20120CA) for my px150. then came along this px200 engine.

i am wondering:

1. is this a literally just a straight up engine swap? (no modifications on the chassis or what)
2. i know the exhaust wont fit the px200, but is it safe to modify it to fit? or should i order a new one Laughing emoticon

i might have more questions next time. im a bit new to this hobby so thank you guys in advance for your guidance!

Welcome!

The engine is a straight swap. All large frame motors are interchangeable between bikes, with a few caveats around 8" versus 10" wheels and (especially) exhaust clearance.

You'll definitely want to get a new exhaust. They have different geometries, as well as different fitment.

The SIP Road 3.1 will be a good, cheap option for you and is a good fit with an untuned or mildly tuned P200 motor. I run one on my lightly tuned P200 and have been quite pleased with it.

If you want to, you can also transfer your Vespower ignition onto the P200 and it'll fit, save you having to match the wiring harnesses. You'll need to set the ignition timing, though, which will require a few tools (TDC tool, degree wheel and timing light). You can search on here and SIP have a good Youtube video of how to do it, too.

You'll need to up your jetting when you do the exhaust swap, too. Not a ton, but enough you need to do it.

Let's see some pictures of your bike when you get a chance. We love pictures around here.

Thanks a lot for the info!! I ordered a racing sip exhaust which is most likely more powerful than the sip 3.1. Double checked SIP site and figured i can just change the exhaust manifold to fit it on the 200 engine. As for the ignition timing, yes already ordered the needed tools! Are you using a 24 or 26mm carb?

That's a great looking bike! I like that a lot.

I run a 24mm carb on my P200, but it's set up as a strong touring motor, so lots of torque, wide power band, autolube, and cool running.

I run PWK's on my performance builds.

With the tuned pipe, you need to be very careful about getting the jetting right and also should do a pressure test (again, search on here) to make sure you have no air leaks.

I blew up multiple top ends when I was getting started in tuning because of air leaks and just generally not knowing what I was doing.

Thanks a lot. I will do my research and hopefully update you when i get my hands on the engine! Btw, are you referring to a PWK carb?

Yes, I am. But that's a whole 'nother level of tuning that I shouldn't even have brought up (yet). Razz emoticon

I have reeds on two (my GL & Smallie) and rotary on two (Sprint w/ P200 & VBB). All of them but the P200 are pretty highly tuned.
