Modern Vespa

Hello everybody!! Been lurking for awhile as I deliberated over joint the MP3 club and I recently took the plunge and purchased a bike I haven't even picked up yet.

I think I've found about every darksiding thread anywhere on MV…but not much on RECENTLY purchased darkside tires. There are 2 cheap ones that are readily available, The petlas 311 and the Haida 667 in the 145/70r12. And a couple Nakangs on one of the mini sites including a winter tire which some seem to think is better for the generally softer compound.

So are there any other suggestions from people that have bought a darkside tire in the last year or so? I ride in the mountain twisties of western NC…and even my PCX burns up rear tires under 5k. That pisses me off…but the prospect of a tire lasting only 2500 mi. Is just untenable. It's funny…I'm sure some who switched to the darkside 5 years ago are still on the same tire and haven't even had to consider recent offerings. Unlike if I go to MC tires and have to replace 3/year.

Thanks OAD…I ended up ordering the Pirelli cinturato off the same site. Obviously pics can be deceiving but it looked to have a little more roundness to the shoulders than the Michelin. I'm a cheap bastard…so these tires aren't the screaming bargain… but I'm sure the quality is much better. And now that city grips are up at $100 a piece… this tire isn't much more than that and hopefully will last 15k+ compared to 3k. That's still a huge savings not to mention not having to mess with it near as frequently…which is huge as well!

I changed my rear wheel from a 12" to a 14" rim, would rather ride around on a scooter tyre. It handles great and the rear tyre lasts for around 10,000 kms.
