My last two cars, one ICE and one plug-in-hybrid both have had much more power than I've ever needed. During the ~3 years ownership of my latest car I've once (!) tried full accelerarion from stand still. With the 4-wheel drive, no loss of traction, it was simply scary - OK for track use, but no relevance what so ever in normal traffic unless one wish to appear as a jerk. The top speed is almost twice the figures I'll ever be able to use legally, or even semi-legally.

One could ask why I bought this car then. Because I do drive long distance driving occasionally. I like a comfy, quiet car that is solid to drive also in our harsh winter. Room enough for my family, dog and misc. stuff. They don't seem to make such cars with normal-life engine specs.[/i]

EV battery swaps will be tested with the Fiat 500e in 2024

A small fleet of rideshare Fiat 500e electric vehicles will become testbeds for battery-swap technology in 2024. The experiment is being conducted by Ample, a startup working on battery swaps, and Stellantis, Fiat's parent company, the Verge reported today.

On my way home last night, in 32ºF weather with freezy rain coming down, I had to go around a guy on a 50cc scooter a five lane, 45mph zone where people frequently drive 55-60. They weren't yesterday because freezy rain.

Even if it was his only means of transport, there are other routes. Oh, but wait ... the other routes are still plugged with ice and snow.

BMS = Battery Management System, that the 300Ah LFP battery has attached to it. This communicates to my phone via Bluetooth, and gives very detailed information on the battery's condition, with perhaps the most important being the charge or discharge current reading.

Speaking of dead of winter and not being able to ride ...

I've been lazy with logging mileage lately, but I totaled everything up this morning. I have officially been driving the FIAT 500e for three years. I've only put 17K miles on it in that time, but during that time I have had to replace exactly three bulbs. I know I can count the number of times I've opened the hood on my ten fingers, and most of those times have been just to make sure things are still pretty.

Even with my drop in mileage with the new tires (which could be a combination of factors) I am still pulling an average of 4.4m/Kwh or 148.4 MPGe. Total savings compared to average gas prices in our city and the 20mpg average for other vehicles (that will have to change with the addition of the Corolla) the FIAT has saved me over $2600.

However, I see this sitting locally for a decent price. Same year as the FIAT, less miles with the range extender.



It's very tempting.

Oh, and as far as scooters ... this is our weather forecast for the next three days.

EV,s have no alternator to charge the batteries if they did wouldn't everybody buy one ? 🤔
