We are celebrating 25 years of The Long Island Scooter Club, aka The Hornets! Our sister club, The Long Island Vespa Club is celebrating its 3rd year but benefits from our 25 years of experience. We share rides and events to make things easy. Originally we started becauce going to NYC, were there was a thriving Club scene, was a little far for us. Especially me as I was riding a 50cc Italjet Veliciefero.
However the basis of our club is not scootering. It is Friendship. We are a Family. We have dealt with it all together. Death & Taxes, Mutiny, Good & Bad and Life itself. The level we are at today surpasses the Internet, Forums and Social Media. That is not an insult to this place, It is just is not our thing. We communicate via the phone & our Facebook group, which is mostly me posting and inviting people to our twice weekly events. But it is the In-Person events that see most of our communication. We are for real. That isnt an insult either.
I only write this to hopefully inspire others to start a club. It is not as easy as making a facebook page if you really want to gather people together in person and on a Scooter. Many have seen my difficulties with drama on this forum, but it is the only place where those problems exist so I try to learn my lessons and avoid drama at all costs on our pages. I truly feel that it is the lack of real in person contact that seperates us all, but that is the way of things. I guess at 62, I am getting a bit Old School & crank-ier. Long Island is big place and not easy to gather people, but if I can do it, so can you. I wish you all the best in your efforts to bring people together & Scoot on...
